Are you passionate about building software that secures and personalizes experiences for millions of users? Do you thrive where identity, trust and scale meet? Are you energized by modern authentication protocols, zero-trust architectures, and the challenge of making login feel invisible to consumers while staying impenetrable to bad actors?
You'll lead two teams within Consumer Engineering at Realtor.com: Identity & Authentication and Consumer Signals & Preferences, about 19 engineers in total, including FTEs and vendor contractors. Together they build and operate the identity platform behind every login, registration and authenticated experience across realtor.com, and the consumer profile and preference data that personalization depends on.
As the Senior Manager for both teams, you'll be responsible for their people, their delivery, the health of the tier-1 systems they run, and the commitments they depend on from other teams. You'll work alongside a principal engineer who sets architecture across identity, signals and CDP, and you'll need enough technical depth to make sound calls on a security-critical platform when the architects aren't in the room.
What You’ll Do:
Lead two teams, about 19 engineers across FTEs and vendor contractors, building and operating authentication services, identity infrastructure and consumer profile services on AWS, including EKS, Lambda, CloudFront and WAF.
Own delivery across both teams through Agile, incremental implementation, keeping quality and operational excellence high across identity, authentication and consumer signals.
Make or referee high-stakes technical decisions with the principal engineer and security, including legacy identity retirement, server-side session management and the sequencing of irreversible migrations and forced mobile upgrades.
Secure and track commitments from partner teams (Mobile Platform, Web Platform, Edge/API Gateway, AppSec, CDP and Notifications) and from our identity vendor, Auth0.
Lead a measurable quality turnaround: raise code coverage and test automation, cut the bug backlog and defect leakage, and set review standards so no change to credential-handling code ships without a real review.
Own security posture for the platform with AppSec: close account-takeover and enumeration risks, drive credential stuffing defenses, and make sure every incident ends with clear, owned follow-up actions.
Hire, onboard and retain strong engineers; hold regular 1:1s, performance conversations and career plans; and manage vendor contractor relationships, including knowledge transfer and the FTE/contractor mix.
Drive delivery on key initiatives such as the Auth0 rollout, OTP and passkeys, server-side sessions, experiment-driven login optimization and consumer preferences.
Bring AI-assisted development tooling into both teams' daily work, with clear expectations for effective and responsible use.
Partner with Product, Security and engineering leadership to shape and deliver the identity and consumer signals roadmap.
Build a culture of integrity, trust, quality and continuous improvement across both teams.
What You’ll Bring:
4+ years managing software engineers, including leading multiple teams or a team of 15 or more, and 8+ years of overall engineering experience.
A track record of turning around the quality and reliability of a business-critical system, with measurable results.
Experience leading delivery that depends on other teams and vendors, including negotiating priorities and dates with peer engineering leaders.
Experience hiring, coaching and mentoring engineers, managing vendor contractors, and handling performance conversations.
Deep understanding of modern authentication protocols and standards, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML and JWT, and identity platforms such as Auth0, enough to evaluate architecture and security trade-offs.
A strong backend engineering background with Node.js, TypeScript and NestJS, including API gateway patterns, CORS and token-based auth flows.
Familiarity with front-end and mobile authentication surfaces (React/TypeScript, iOS, Android), such as login and registration flows and social auth (Google One Tap, Apple Sign-In).
Experience with cloud-native infrastructure on AWS, including EKS, Lambda, CloudFront, WAF and ArgoCD/Helm-based deployments.
Familiarity with event-driven architectures using Kafka and caching patterns with Redis.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines (CircleCI) and observability tooling (New Relic, Splunk).
Experience using AI and LLM-powered tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to speed up engineering work, including code generation, automated code review and test coverage.
Strong empathy for consumers and a passion for making secure experiences feel effortless.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience retiring a legacy identity or authentication system, or migrating users between identity providers.
Experience with consumer profile, preference or customer data platforms.
Experience running login or registration experiments with tools like Amplitude.
Familiarity with AI-driven threat and anomaly detection for identity security, such as bot detection, credential stuffing identification and behavioral anomaly signals.
Experience setting team standards for AI-assisted development workflows.
