Sana’s vision is to make healthcare easy.
All of us can agree healthcare is simply too hard in the US. And our members feel that pain day in and day out. We aim to create an experience that simply feels easy when you need to access our healthcare system. If you need something, you know where to go to get it with care that is a click (or as few clicks as possible!) away.
What’s beautiful about a vision oriented toward “easy” is how it imparts a singular feeling. We instinctively know as humans when something is easy versus hard, even if we can’t explain why. We fight as a company to make an easy pathway available to all our members at every stage of their healthcare journey. If you feel passionate about delivering better healthcare to small businesses through a seamless care experience and affordable benefits, join us!
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help lead the architecture, development, and deployment of production-grade AI systems across the business. You’ll work closely with Sana’s data science, product, engineering, and operations teams to design workflows that will enhance the experience of our members and internal users. If you’re a hands-on engineer with deep expertise in machine learning systems and a pragmatic approach to delivering value quickly in a startup environment, let’s talk!
What you will do:
- Architect and implement scalable AI systems for core business functions (e.g., claims processing, underwriting, customer support).
- Lead end-to-end ML pipelines, from data ingestion to model training to inference in production.
- Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to identify high-leverage AI use cases.
- Translate ambiguous problems into well-defined projects with measurable outcomes.
- Ensure explainability, fairness, and regulatory compliance in AI applications.
- Partner with data engineering to improve data infrastructure for training and inference.
- Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence, knowledge sharing, and experimentation.
About you:
- 3+ years of backend or full-stack software engineering experience, with 1+ years leading AI/ML systems in production.
- Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or HuggingFace.
- Deep understanding of ML fundamentals, LLM fine-tuning/inference, and MLOps best practices.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, K8s).
- Strong communication and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
- Bonus points if you have experience with healthtech, insurtech, claims data, eligibility rules, etc…
- Eager to join a high-powered startup
Sana is a modern health plan solution for small and medium businesses. We use a more efficient financing structure and integrated technology solutions to cut out wasteful spending and get members access to better quality care at lower costs. Founded in 2017, we are an experienced team of engineers, designers, and health system operators. We have the financial backing of Silicon Valley venture firms and innovative reinsurance partners. If you are excited about building something new and being a part of fixing our broken healthcare system from the inside, please reach out!
