Overview:

SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant. This new role offers a valuable opportunity to grow with the insurance company, its parent, and its affiliated managing general agency as operations are stood up and expanded. The individual in this position will work with a dynamic team of dedicated professionals who are committed to excellence in fiduciary and financial accountability and reporting. Primary responsibilities include detailed tax calculations and tax analysis.  The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of federal and state taxes, including corporate and partnership taxation, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver work products with a high level of accuracy while consistently meeting related deadlines.   


What you’d be doing:  

  • Prepare quarterly tax forecast for purposes of partnership distributions and corporate federal and state estimated tax payments 
  • Gather financial and other documents for our outside tax return provider 
  • Review the draft returns provided to verify proper tracking of ownership percentages, capital account and basis roll-forwards, and taxable income reporting 
  • Coordinate meetings and data gathering for the company’s research and development tax credit 
  • Maintain tax due date calendar to ensure timely filing of all tax returns and estimated payments 
  • Assist with financial reporting, including monthly tax journal entries and year-end provision including tax footnote and other disclosures 
  • Manage correspondence with federal and state/local tax authorities and ensure proper application of nonresident withholding tax  
  • Analyze federal and state/local legislative tax changes affecting the company and present the effects of those changes to management 
  • Draft communication to respond to external investors’ inquiries on K-1s and other topics  

 

We’re looking for someone who has: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting or Tax 
  • Minimum 3 - 6 years of experience in accounting or tax role 
  • Experience in business tax compliance, particularly corporations and partnerships  
  • Experience with tax research and writing and preparing detailed analysis 
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines, both independently and as part of a team 
  • Detail oriented and the ability to deliver work products with a high degree of accuracy 
  • Strong verbal and written skills, and the ability to convey complex information 
  • Available to work across time zones with flexibility to follow-up on items outside of business hours, including weekends 

Highly preferred candidates also have:  

  • Experience either working in insurance or with insurance clients 
  • Experience with partnership tax compliance and research 
  • Certified Public Accountant or CPA candidate
