Job Description
The Infatuation, part of Chase Dining, provides its users with trustworthy and useful restaurant recommendations around the world. Our editorial team is looking for an exceptional, experienced writer to write compelling reviews, guides, and newsletters on Chicago restaurants.
As a Senior Writer in Chicago for The Infatuation, you will spend your time exploring as many restaurants as possible, writing about them, and using your knowledge of the city to pitch well-researched, relatable content. You'll work alongside a team of talented, dedicated, and humorous people who share a passion for dining in this city. This full-time position comes with a monthly budget to spent at restaurants that you are reviewing for our publication.
Job Responsibilities

  • Own restaurant guides and reviews from start to finish with minimal direction from an editor-conceptualize, research, write, and publish.
  • Submit copy that is not only grammatically proficient and adheres to Infatuation's customized Style Guide, but also demonstrates a unique point of view, thoughtful criticism, and expert restaurant knowledge.
  • Meet or exceed all deadlines for copy.
  • Pitch new restaurant reviews and guide concepts in team edit meetings on a regular basis.
  • Actively participate in editorial brainstorms and team meetings - consistently contributing to dialogue, pitching new coverage ideas, and shaping content strategy.
  • Autonomously conduct restaurant research - you're able to dine out multiple times a week in Chicago and surrounding areas.
  • Leverage Infatuation platforms (newsletter, social, etc.) to interact directly with our audience, building a name and reputation for yourself as a knowledgeable voice within the restaurant/dining space in Chicago.
  • Track and analyze content performance using available data.
  • Work in collaboration with the social team to amplify editorial content and create unique social content. You are comfortable appearing on camera for our social channels.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Capabilities

  • You have 4+ years experience as a writer at a reputable publication within digital or print.
  • You are deeply knowledgeable of the restaurant space in Chicago and can make recommendations on restaurants based on different scenarios.
  • You show journalistic integrity and can speak to practical knowledge/training.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to meet and/or exceed deadlines.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to pitch new ideas and execute them.
  • You have extensive experience with fact-checking and research.
  • You're able to adapt your writing style, having worked for different kinds of publications and/or have used different kinds of style guides.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Capabilities

  • Experience in food, beverage, or general lifestyle writing.
  • Openness and willingness to try a wide variety of menu items and cuisines.
