The Department
The Trading Technology Department consists of technologists across development, quality assurance and DevOps teams. We are a full-stack team providing all technology required by FRM’s global trading operations. These trading operations include the portfolio management, trading, and trade operations teams. Our systems include financial mathematics to calculate risk, order management and routing systems to send orders, market data, reporting, and trade reconciliation for a wide variety of financial instruments traded around the world.
The Role
The Software Developer works with other developers on the team in the creation and support of trading, risk and back-office systems which are used on a global basis.
Your Responsibilities:
- Create, maintain, and enhance systems to support our growing business. This includes both client and server-side software, database, and potentially intranet-based web development.
- Take on responsibilities only limited by your abilities and work with a fair degree of independence.
- Work and communicate clearly with other technical and non-technical team members including traders.
Job Knowledge, Experience Skills
Job Knowledge Required
- Proficiency in C# and/or C/C++ (or comparable programming languages)
- Working knowledge of software development life cycles
- Familiarity with implementation of web APIs (HTTP/S protocol, REST, authentication, etc.)
- Familiarity with relational database schema and efficient query construction
Experience and Soft Skills Required
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent degree
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstration of consistent positive collaboration with peers and/or customers
- Recognition and adherence to standards of professionalism (e.g., reliability, timeliness, courtesy, appropriate attire, etc.)
Additional Knowledge and Skills to Build
- Experience with financial markets, mutual funds, portfolio management, and derivatives
- Experience coding complex projects in VBA
- Knowledge of Git source control system
- Understanding of SDLC
- Source control systems and branching patterns.
- Multithreaded programming.
- History integrating with one or more cloud vendors (e.g., Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, etc.)
- Familiarity with issue-tracking and related SDLC tools (e.g., JIRA, Azure DevOps, GitHub, etc.)
- Exposure to programming environments common to insurance professionals (e.g., Excel and VBA, SAS, Python, etc.)
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
Location
Candidates hired into this role will be required to work in-person in the Milliman office in Chicago, IL on a weekly basis, but flexible work arrangements will be considered. The expected application deadline for this job is July 1, 2026.
Compensation
The overall range for this role is $68,080 - $109,020. A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
