Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The Role
Bitkey is Block's Bitcoin self-custody wallet, built to make it safe and approachable for people everywhere to hold their own Bitcoin. Our team builds end-to-end product experiences - from backend services and APIs to public-facing web surfaces and in-product flows - that help customers discover Bitkey, purchase a device, and manage their funds with confidence.
We're looking for a full-stack Software Engineer to help build and evolve Bitkey's customer-facing surfaces. This role spans public web experiences, purchase and checkout flows, and in-product web and service-backed experiences that support the Bitkey ecosystem.
You'll design and operate the backend systems that power these experiences, while also contributing to the web interfaces customers interact with.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys owning customer journeys end-to-end, from service design and data modeling to web-based user experiences, and who is comfortable working close to revenue-impacting systems.
techniques.
You Will
  • Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that support Bitkey's public website, purchase flows, and customer-facing products.
  • Build and evolve web-based experiences, including product/marketing surfaces and checkout flows.
  • Partner closely with product, design, and growth teams to improve conversion, reliability, and user experience across the Bitkey funnel.
  • Own features end-to-end, from backend logic and data models through frontend workflows and integrations.
  • Collaborate with mobile/platform teams and design technologists to ensure web and service-backed flows integrate cleanly into the broader Bitkey experience.
  • Help improve system reliability, observability, and operational maturity for customer- and revenue-facing systems.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions around service boundaries, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Leverage AI-powered development tools to accelerate iteration, improve code quality, and explore new ways of working across the stack.
  • Actively contribute ideas and experimentation around engineering practices, tooling, and team workflows, with a bias toward continuous improvement.

You Have
  • 5+ years relevant industry experience building and operating backend systems in production, particularly APIs and services that support customer-facing applications.
  • Solid full-stack experience, with the ability to contribute to modern web front-ends (e.g., React or similar frameworks).
  • A strong backend skill set: comfort with data modeling, service design, and operational ownership.
  • Experience collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional partners.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals, including testing, debugging, and performance tuning.
  • Comfort learning new technologies and product domains as needed.

Nice to Have
  • Experience working on public websites, growth funnels, or marketing surfaces.
  • Familiarity with Kotlin, Rust, or similar strongly typed languages.
  • Experience contributing to mobile applications (Android or iOS).
  • Interest in Bitcoin, financial products, or consumer fintech.
  • Experience improving developer tooling, observability, or internal platforms.
  • Mobile development experience
