WHO WE ARE
Headquartered in the historic Chicago Board of Trade, PEAK6 Capital Management is a proprietary options trading firm that has been defining the industry for more than 25 years. While many firms have come and gone, PEAK6 Capital Management has consistently delivered liquidity to the options market. We thrive due to our firm's special blend of financial acumen, ability to manage risk, and cutting-edge technology.
PEAK6 Capital Management was brought to life through insatiable curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit, and the desire to win. We offer incredible opportunities for smart, passionate team players to solve complex problems and take calculated risks. We were among the first firms to develop sophisticated proprietary technology in our trading business. Today, we continue to leverage our technical ingenuity and operational excellence across several investment areas, spanning early-to-mid stage growth capital, operational control, trading, and eSports. Throughout the years, we've built and operated several financial technology firms and we continue to evolve.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
Spearheaded by co-founder, Jenny Just, we've taken our passion for technology and created a software development experience designed to introduce women+ to the FinTech industry. Our internship is meant to encourage smart, ambitious, tech-savvy women+ to break the mold! We've heard all the myths about FinTech-too cutthroat, too intense, too risky-but we know that's not the case at PEAK6. We know women+ make outstanding developers and technologists, but there are not enough female developers in the FinTech field yet. We are changing that.
You can expect the internship to include:
- End-to-end ownership of an impactful project with a team of interns, culminating in a final presentation to senior leadership
- Developing innovative tools within our proprietary trading platform. Past examples: framework for notifying users of app updates, data quality dashboard, crypto data ingestion, execution algorithm exploration tool, stock research feed from Slack, and many more!
- Work with a variety of languages-Java, Python, Go, and JavaScript-as well as technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, Airflow, Kafka, Kubernetes, and Docker
- Attend options trading classes alongside our trading interns
- Overviews on each of our development teams, and deep-dive sessions on critical systems
- Weekly poker lessons and games through our Poker Power organization
- Multiple opportunities to hear and learn from women in the FinTech space, both within PEAK6 and from other organizations
- Close collaboration with business stakeholders and end users on projects
- Dynamic, fast-paced work environment where the need to stay ahead of the curve means you'll learn every day
- Housing & travel funded by PEAK6
You'll gain loads of experience in our internship but before you do, you need to have:
- A graduation date between December 2025 - June 2026
- Availability to relocate to Chicago for the internship (between June and August)
- Authorization to work in the US, now and in the future
- Competent software development skills in a modern object-oriented programming language (Java and/or Python preferably) and the ability to learn new languages and technologies quickly
- Desire to learn about FinTech
We'd love to hear about:
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Curiosity to learn and a drive to improve
- Ability to thrive in collaborative environments
- Effective communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Interest in financial markets
Please note that June-August is our pre-application period. If you apply and complete our online assessment during this time frame, we will keep your application on hold until we will actively start interviewing for this program in August 2024. We will be in touch with next steps in August.
