This is a remote position.

The Software QA Engineer II will support the Texas Education Agency on the Statewide Education Data System (SEDS) and/or Texas Student Data System (TSDS) testing initiatives. This role performs advanced computer systems analysis and team lead work, administering the daily operations and activities of testing teams within the Quality Assurance section. The position involves planning, budgeting, and analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or improve existing systems. The Software QA Engineer works closely with development teams and customers to design, automate, and execute test cases across complex web applications. This role also supports performance, accessibility, and data validation testing to ensure the reliability of agency applications.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes user requirements, design documents, and other documentation to develop detailed test cases.
  • Creates and executes automated functional and regression test cases.
  • Reports and documents all issues, test cases executed, test results, and testing summaries in detail.
  • Performs manual testing and data validation.
  • Performs SQL queries to analyze and manipulate data.
  • Collaborates with development teams and customers to understand functionality under test.
  • Defines and implements test case automation strategies.
  • Communicates testing progress and findings clearly to the team.
  • Executes performance testing.
  • Executes accessibility testing.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience testing complex web applications.
  • 6 years of automation experience with Java and TestNG.
  • 5 years of expertise in SQL.
  • 4 years of experience with Playwright.
  • 4 years of experience with workflow-driven automation.
  • 4 years of experience with JMeter/WAPT Pro or other load testing tools.
  • 3 years of experience with GitHub Copilot skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of previous experience with Zephyr Scale.
  • 2 years of previous experience with Jira.

Additional Requirements

  • May require evenings, weekends, or holidays as pre-approved by the agency.
  • Texas-based candidates are preferred.
Work Location and Schedule
Location: William B. Travis State Building, 1701 North Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas 78701.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding State holidays; 
Work Arrangement: Telework.
