Somewear serves a wide range of customers including helicopter paramedics, backcountry explorers, firefighters, and operators within the US Department of Defense. Our purpose is to build best-in-class solutions that keep people in touch, informed, and safe anywhere in the world.

We're looking for a QA Engineering Lead to establish and drive quality initiatives across Somewear's platform. Working from our San Francisco or Chicago offices, you will build and lead our quality organization while ensuring our solutions meet the rigorous demands of mission-critical operations.

Join us to make an impact "Recently, the United States Air National Guard 131st Rescue Squadron successfully employed Somewear's unique ATAK integration to coordinate and monitor a civilian rescue operation 1,200 miles off the U.S. Pacific coast. The consistent communications and situational awareness across rescue personnel, medical personnel, aircrafts, and the operations center led to an efficient rescue mission that took half of the expected time to complete."

What you'll do

  • Drive test automation initiatives with a pragmatic approach to balancing coverage and velocity

  • Lead quality decisions independently, weighing trade-offs between perfectionism and shipping velocity

  • Interface between engineering teams, mission operations, and end-users as the primary quality advocate

  • Make data-driven decisions about quality risks and testing investments

  • Lead root cause analysis for complex, cross-platform issues

  • Build scalable, practical processes for regression testing and release validation

  • Present quality insights and recommendations to leadership and stake holders

  • Foster a quality-first mindset while maintaining focus on business objectives

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of QA experience

  • Proven track record establishing QA processes in multi-platform environments

  • Experience leading test automation initiatives

  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation

  • Experience with mission-critical or regulated software development

  • Proficiency in modern testing frameworks and scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript)

  • Excellence in cross-functional communication and stakeholder management

  • Experience developing test strategies across hardware and software platforms

Nice to Have

  • Experience with satellite communications or IoT devices

  • Background in defense or emergency response software

  • Experience working with government customers

  • Knowledge of ATAK or similar tactical systems

  • Experience with distributed systems testing

What you'll love about Somewear

  • A competitive and equitable compensation plan. This is a full-time, salaried position that includes equity.

  • Physical well-being including health, dental and vision benefits.

  • Focus Days: No meetings every Monday to allow you to focus an operate at your best

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Flexible parental leave

  • Lead strategic quality initiatives that directly impact mission-critical operations

  • Work with an ambitious team solving complex technical challenges

  • Direct access to senior leadership and significant impact on company growth

  • Opportunity to develop solutions that save lives

  • An authentic investment in you as a human being and your career as a professional

Salary Range:

  • San Francisco: $150,000 - $165,000 per year

  • Chicago: $145,000 - $160,000 per year
