The Sr. Director, Clinical Strategy & Market Operations is accountable for designing and scaling clinical initiatives that improve patient outcomes, optimize physician performance, and unlock value through sub-capitated and risk-based partnerships. Primarily responsible to drive the execution of strategic clinical programs — with a focus on Renal, Oncology, and Palliative Care — in collaboration with market teams, clinical leaders, and cross-functional partners. The ideal candidate brings deep operational expertise, an understanding of value-based care for complex senior populations, and the ability to lead across a highly matrixed organization.
Essential Job Functions
• Lead the execution and scaling of enterprise clinical programs in Renal, Oncology, and Palliative Care, ensuring alignment with agilon’s value-based care model and sub[1]capitated risk arrangements
• Set up standard processes to monitor and reconcile sub-capitated program performance • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline operations, ensure compliance and contract adherence, and improve sub-capitated program performance.
• Co-lead the redesign of provider incentives to reward meaningful physician engagement and improved outcomes
• Lead the operationalization of provider incentives to ensure accurate and timely measurement
• Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate and optimize clinical initiatives across new and existing markets, leveraging resources from Finance, Technology, Quality, BOI, Medical Leadership, and Clinical Programs
• Drive effective communication and engagement across stakeholders, clearly articulating program goals, performance results, and areas of opportunity
• Serve as a clinical strategy lead for value-based partnerships, helping shape program design and execution to support sub-capitated payment models and long-term collaboration
• Participate in strategic planning efforts and contribute to long-term visioning for enterprise-wide clinical innovation
• Foster best-practice sharing across markets through agilon Clinical Committees, working groups, and knowledge hubs
• Represent agilon’s clinical strategy in high-visibility conversations with internal and external leadership.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience in healthcare delivery, strategy, or operations, with a strong preference for backgrounds in value-based care or managed care
• Deep knowledge of clinical program development and operations in areas such as Renal Care, Oncology, and Palliative Care
• Experience with provider incentive model design and execution in risk-bearing organizations
• Track record of successfully implementing cross-functional initiatives across complex, matrixed environments
• Strong analytical mindset, with the ability to translate data into action and communicate performance to diverse stakeholders
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with executive presence and the ability to influence across disciplines
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in healthcare, business, or a clinical field (e.g., MPH, MBA, MHA, RN, MD) strongly preferred
Required Qualifications:
• Passionate about value-based care, the importance of its role in our current healthcare system, and the necessity to achieve these goals through partnership
• 10 years VBC experience in project management, strategy, and ops
• Proven track record developing and launching clinical programs, particularly around value-based initiatives, including program design, quality measures, efficiency
• Robust experience with, and understanding of, practice management/operations
• Strong operational and process management skills
• Previous clinical and/or operational leadership role in value-based programs.
• Experience developing programs for high risk/high complexity patient population strongly preferred
• Effective communicator to practices and individual physicians.
Location is flexible, and significant portion of work can be done remotely with video meetings. Occasional travel to market sites as needed (10-30%)
Location: Remote - OHPay Range: $153,000.00 - $191,300.00Salary range shown is a guideline. Individual compensation packages can vary based on factors unique to each candidate, such as skill set, experience, and qualifications.
