Summary 
As a Sr Manager, Tax, working in collaboration with and in support of the firm’s strategic initiatives, you will support the Director of Tax in the execution of the firm's domestic and global tax strategy, compliance, planning, governance, and risk management initiatives. You will provide leadership over the firm's day-to-day tax compliance activities and help ensure the timely and accurate execution of tax reporting obligations across multiple jurisdictions. 

As a senior member of the tax function, you will serve as a primary reviewer and escalation point for tax matters managed by the tax team, providing technical guidance, quality control, and oversight of key tax deliverables. You will partner closely with the Director of Tax to drive departmental priorities, implement strategic initiatives, enhance processes and controls, and support the continued development of the firm's tax function. 

 

You will collaborate extensively with Accounting, FP&A, Payroll, Legal, Human Resources, Operations, external advisors, and international counterparts to evaluate tax implications, support business decisions, and address complex tax matters. Through a combination of technical expertise, leadership, and executive presence, you will help advance the Director of Tax's vision while supporting the firm's compliance, planning, and broader business objectives. 

Location  
This position can sit in our New York, Chicago, or Short Hills office and offers a hybrid work schedule. 

Responsibilities   
Supports the Director, Tax in the development and execution of the firm’s domestic and global tax strategy, governance framework, policies, controls, and departmental priorities. 

Oversees day-to-day partnership tax compliance activities, including federal, state, local, and applicable international tax matters, for both direct and indirect taxes. 

Serves as a senior reviewer and escalation point for tax filings, workpapers, partner-related tax deliverables, notices, analyses, and other materials prepared by the Manager, Tax, tax team members, and external tax advisors. 

Reviews partner-related tax support documents, including quarterly tax memoranda, nonresident and composite tax elections, annual distribution communications, Schedule K-1 reporting packages, partner capital matters, tax allocations, and related partner reporting items. 

Provides technical tax guidance and support to the Tax Manager and broader tax team, including coaching, mentoring, knowledge sharing, and review of complex tax matters. 

Assists the Director, Tax in monitoring legislative and regulatory changes across applicable jurisdictions and evaluating potential impacts on the firm’s tax compliance obligations, risk profile, planning opportunities, and partner reporting requirements. 

Supports the Director, Tax in providing tax guidance related to partner compensation, partner capital, tax allocations, partner reporting, investment partnership matters, foreign subsidiaries, and cross-border tax considerations. 

Coordinates with external tax advisors on compliance, consulting, audit, and reporting engagements, including review of deliverables, management of timelines, issue tracking, and escalation of significant matters. 

Supports the preparation and delivery of leadership-level tax analyses, including tax risk summaries, scenario modeling, planning opportunities, compliance updates, and strategic recommendations. 

Oversees the preparation and resolution of federal, state, local, and international tax notices, examinations, audits, and information requests, escalating high-risk or complex matters to the Director, Tax as appropriate. 

Supports or leads in significant audits, disputes, and interactions with tax authorities, including preparation of responses, coordination of documentation, and review of technical positions. 

Partners with Accounting, FP&A, Payroll, Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Operations, and international counterparts to ensure tax considerations are appropriately identified, evaluated, and addressed in business decisions and firm initiatives. 

Assists with the establishment, maintenance, and enhancement of tax governance, tax policies, internal controls, procedures, and quality control processes to support compliance and mitigate risk. 

Identifies opportunities to improve tax compliance processes, reporting procedures, controls, technology utilization, and collaboration across departments, and assists with implementation of approved enhancements. 

Serves as a key liaison among the tax function, external advisors, internal departments, and international counterparts to support timely communication, issue resolution, and alignment with firm objectives. 

Assists the Director, Tax with departmental planning, workload management, team development, and execution of leadership initiatives designed to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and strategic value of the tax function. 

Performs other duties and special projects as assigned. 

Desired Skills    

Domestic and global tax compliance, planning, governance, and risk management, including experience coordinating with international counterparts. Partnership tax, partner compensation, capital, allocations, and reporting. Experience advising senior leadership on tax risks, regulatory changes, audits, and planning opportunities. Experience managing tax professionals and external tax advisors. Strong understanding of tax governance, controls, and cross-functional tax processes. 

 

Strong technical tax expertise, including partnership tax, federal, state, local, and international tax matters. Ability to translate complex tax issues into clear, executive-level insights and recommendations. Strong judgment, risk assessment, and issue-spotting capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to partner effectively with senior leadership, cross-functional teams, and international counterparts. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with Accounting, FP&A, and business leadership teams to translate complex tax issues into actionable business recommendations. Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, compliance, and governance. Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities. 

Minimum Education    

  • Bachelor's Degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. 

 

Preferred Education 

  • Master's Degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.  

Certificates 

  • Certified Public Accountant, Juris Doctor, or other relevant tax credential preferred.  

Minimum Years of Experience   

  • 7 years of experience in progressive tax experience, preferably within a professional services, law firm, partnership, or complex global organization.

Physical Demands 

Sedentary work: This is primarily sedentary work, requiring occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. The role involves sitting for extended periods, with occasional walking and standing, and occasional travel, both domestic and international. 

 

Work Environment 

The individual selected for this position may have the opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement comprised of remote and in-office work, the requirement for which will be determined in coordination with the hiring manager or supervisor and may be modified in the firm’s discretion in the future.

The firm’s expected hiring range for this position is $164,204 - $227,465 per year depending on the candidate’s geographic market location. 

The compensation offered for employment will also be dependent on other factors including the candidate’s experience, skills, educational and professional background, and overall qualifications. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits, including medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k).
