Building the Future of Open Finance

Payward - the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks - has spent the last 15 years building one of the most modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure platforms in the industry, built to advance an open, global financial system.

Before you apply, we encourage you to explore our culture page to understand what drives us and how we work.

The Team

Founded in 2011, Kraken is one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions across the globe. It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.

We’re looking for a world-class Staff Product Designer to help shape the future of Kraken in the crypto space. This is a high-impact individual contributor role with broad scope and influence: you’ll lead the design direction of complex, high-priority areas within our flagship Kraken app, used and loved by millions of people around the world.

We’re a hardworking team that moves fast and ships with purpose. We’re straight-talking, no-nonsense, and deeply invested in the quality of what we build. We care about craft, we care about our customers, and we care about getting things right.

If you’re excited by ambiguous, high-stakes problems, setting the bar for design excellence, and helping define the future of finance through world-class product experiences, climb aboard.

The opportunity
  • Set and elevate the design vision across key product areas, defining what great looks like and driving it through execution.

  • Lead the design of complex, ambiguous problem spaces, turning them into clear, elegant, and scalable user experiences.

  • Raise the bar for the industry by creating visually rich, forward-thinking designs that elevate Kraken’s brand and set new benchmarks for excellence.

  • Shape and evolve Kraken’s design system and visual language, ensuring consistency and scalability across the product.

  • Partner deeply with product, engineering, and leadership to influence product strategy and roadmap decisions, not just execution.

  • Drive alignment across teams, bringing clarity and direction to cross-functional initiatives.

  • Mentor and support other designers, contributing to their growth and raising the overall quality of the design team.

  • Champion a high standard of craft and user experience, influencing stakeholders to uphold excellence across the organization.

  • Use customer insights, data, and experimentation to inform decisions and continuously improve product outcomes.

  • Lead design critiques and contribute to a strong culture of feedback, rigor, and continuous improvement.

What you bring
  • 7+ years of experience in product design, with a portfolio demonstrating exceptional craft and impact, particularly in mobile app experiences.

  • Proven ability to lead design direction for large, complex product areas and deliver high-quality outcomes.

  • Strong UX and visual design skills, with a track record of solving ambiguous problems with clarity and elegance.

  • Advanced prototyping skills, with the ability to communicate complex interactions and ideas effectively.

  • Experience influencing product strategy and cross-functional decision-making at a team or organizational level.

  • Strong systems thinking, with experience contributing to or evolving design systems at scale.

  • Ability to mentor and elevate other designers through feedback, collaboration, and example.

  • Data-informed mindset, balancing user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.

  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, able to clearly articulate and defend design decisions to diverse stakeholders.

  • Deep understanding of human-centered design principles and research methods, and the ability to apply them in complex environments.

  • Experience designing trading or financial products is a plus.

Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.
