The Senior User Experience Specialist is a seasoned UX leader responsible for shaping and elevating Compassion’s digital experiences through strategic design and research. This role leads advanced user research efforts, applies sophisticated UX methodologies, and collaborates across product, engineering, and content teams to deliver impactful, user-centered solutions.
The Senior UX Specialist plays a key role in advancing Compassion’s design system, ensuring cohesive and accessible experiences across platforms. In addition to owning complex, high-visibility projects, this individual mentors junior team members and contributes to raising UX maturity and design excellence across the organization.
What will you do?
Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ, maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Compassion, and faithfully upholds Compassion’s ministry in prayer.
Acts as an advocate to raise the awareness of the needs of children. Understands Christ’s mandate to protect children. Commits to and prioritizes child protection considerations in all decision-making, tasks and activities across the ministry.
Abides by all behavioral expectations in Compassion’s Statement of Commitment to Child Protection and Code of Conduct. Reports any concerns of abuse, neglect or exploitation of children through Compassion’s internal reporting process and appropriately supports responses to incidents if they occur.
Lead user research initiatives, including defining research objectives, conducting in-depth interviews and usability tests, and synthesizing insights to inform strategic design decisions.
Drive the creation and evolution of Compassion’s digital experiences, designing intuitive and engaging solutions across web and mobile platforms.
Collaborate with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Marketing) to shape UX strategies that align with business objectives.
Take ownership of complex design projects, leading design sprints and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Contribute to and optimize Compassion’s design system, ensuring scalability, accessibility, and usability across digital products.
Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design, implementing WCAG standards and championing best practices across teams.
Mentor and support junior UX team members, providing guidance, design critique, and professional development opportunities.
Stay at the forefront of UX trends and emerging technologies, proactively applying best practices to enhance Compassion’s digital experiences.
What do you bring?
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in User Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
7-10 years of experience in UX/UI design, user research, or a related field, with a proven track record of leading UX initiatives.
Advanced proficiency in UX/UI design tools, such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD, with experience creating complex interactive prototypes.
Deep experience in user research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative research, usability testing, and A/B testing.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally, working closely with product managers, developers, and marketing teams to create impactful user experiences.
Extensive experience contributing to and optimizing a design system, ensuring consistency and scalability in design components.
Strong knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles, with experience implementing WCAG guidelines.
Excellent problem-solving, storytelling, and communication skills, with the ability to present and defend design decisions to stakeholders.
A robust portfolio showcasing end-to-end UX work, including research, strategy, and execution of complex digital projects.
