First Bank Chicago will be accepting applications for the Staff Accountant-Operations position through June 24, 2026.

This position reports to the VP/Controller

Basic Function

Responsible for supporting the Finance department’s operational accounting functions, including accounts payable processing, routine reconciliations and daily GL control tasks. Reports to Controller and works closely with the Senior Accountant to ensure accurate, timely and well-documented transactional accounting and control evidence. 

Essential Duties 

  1. Process accounts payable invoices, including intake, coding, approval routing and payment execution 
  2. Maintain vendor master file and ensure accuracy of vendor records 
  3. Process employee expense reports and corporate credit card transactions 
  4. Perform daily cash and correspondent bank reconciliations 
  5. Monitor clearing and suspense accounts and investigate outstanding items 
  6. Assist with wire and ACH transactions 
  7. Perform routine monthly balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts 
  8. Prepare and post intercompany eliminations and Holdco consolidation entries 
  9. Prepare Holdco journal entries and Holdco financial statements 
  10. Prepare subordinated debt interest accruals and maintain subordinated debt compliance tracking 
  11. Assist with monthly collateral pledging/releasing documentation and filing 
  12. Process monthly tax withholding payment submissions 
  13. Gather and organize documentation for external audit, internal audit and regulatory exam requests 
  14. Prepare assigned schedules for year-end financial statements, Call Report, annual budget and audit/tax/exam requests 

Nonessential Duties 

  • Assist with special projects and ad hoc tasks as directed by Controller/CFO 
  • Participate in cross-training to build broader understanding of close and reporting functions.  
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Training & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance  
  • 0 - 2 years of accounting experience: banking or financial services experience preferred 
  • Microsoft proficiency, especially expertise in Excel and Word. Power Point, Access and Power BI experience preferred 
  • Strong computer application skills 
  • Banking and/or Fiserv and Prologue (including Business Analytics) experience preferred

Compensation
Expected Salary Range: $62,000 - $72,000
Salary will be negotiated based on relevant skills and experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
