Make Your Mark:
A Staff Engineering role with responsibilities across both front-end and back-end, with a primary emphasis on backend development. This position supports a combined engineering team and contributes to building and enhancing a modern microservices platform using both .NET and Java technologies.
In this role, you will research, test, benchmark and evaluate new technologies, propose scaling solutions, collaborate with other teams to define and build new features, optimize existing features while writing elegant code, and communicating with people at all levels. Your attention to detail, tenacity, and creative problem-solving and thinking ahead will directly impact the company's success, as well as the success of your peers across the organization.
This role is designed for a high-impact engineer who wants to grow into technology leadership, while actively mentoring and supporting junior team members.
You'll Get To:

• Provide technical expertise in the design, development, and delivery of BlackLine's products, while adhering to timelines, coding standards, requirements, and quality.
• Design, develop, test, troubleshoot, debug, optimize, scale, maintain and improve software applications, driving the delivery of high-quality value and features to BlackLine's customers. Collaborate with your team on all aspects of development including participation in code reviews, developing functional and technical specifications and strategizing test plans.
• Implement, refine, and follow software development techniques to ensure that delivered features meet software integration, performance, security, and maintainability expectations.
• Research, test, benchmark, and evaluate new tools and technologies, and recommend ways to implement them in product development.
• Maintain high standards of software quality and technical excellence within the team by proactively supporting good practices and habits and writing clean, testable, maintainable, and secure code.
• Proactively identify issues, bottlenecks, gaps, or other areas of concern or opportunity and work to either directly affect change, or advocate for that change by working with peers and leadership to build consensus and take action.
• Perform critical maintenance, deployment, and release support activities, including occasional off-hours support

What You'll Bring:

• BS in Computer Science OR Master's in CS, with 8+ years of experience
• 8+ years of professional experience in building Web scale highly available multi-tenant SaaS with a focus on backend platforms, frameworks, RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Experience with object-oriented languages such as C#, Java, C++, or Golang, front-end technologies like JavaScript and React, and strong SQL skills are required.
• Demonstrated cloud-native experience is required, including public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP), Kubernetes-based container orchestration, messaging systems such as Kafka or SQS, API gateways, and observability tooling.
• A solid computer science foundation including data structures, algorithms, and design patterns, with a proven track record of software design and development.
• Must-have experience with AI-assisted development tools, including hands-on use of Claude Code or GitHub Copilot. Candidates are expected to actively leverage these tools in their daily workflow to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and delivery efficiency.
• Superior analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working in an Agile development environment. Passion for engineering excellence through automation, unit testing, and process improvements.
