Who we are
At Fortis Games we aspire to make great games that bring people together while redefining how game companies work. We believe in building a sense of belonging through our games, their communities, and how we operate and treat each other. Through our game communities, we will create powerful connections and lasting memories. We will foster a culture of diversity, equity and belonging where together our diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds impact the games we make.
We are an early but mighty organization with a leadership team of game industry veterans. There are many opportunities for you to have a big impact on the products we'll be making as well as the overall direction of the company. If you're passionate about tackling difficult problems with direct and thoughtful communication and team first mentality, we may be the right place for you.

About the role

As a Staff AI Engineer at Fortis, you’ll be at the forefront of applied machine learning in game development. This role sits within AI Labs, our experimental R&D arm focused on building smarter, faster, and more creative ways to make games. You’ll go from concept to production, partnering closely with world-class teams across the company to turn cutting-edge ML into real-world impact - and help shape what’s next in AI-powered play.

What you’ll achieve

  • Collaborate with game, publishing, platform, and tech teams to build and scale ML-driven solutions across Fortis.
  • Own the research, development, deployment, and maintenance of production-grade ML tools and systems.
  • Accelerate creative and production workflows using generative models and intelligent automation.
  • Help grow and shape the AI engineering discipline within Fortis Labs.
  • Develop clear technical documentation to communicate decisions, trade-offs, and principles to stakeholders.
  • Triage and resolve complex, high-impact issues in both experimental and live environments.
  • Champion clean, scalable, and high-performance architecture aligned with Fortis-wide engineering standards.
  • Push boundaries on what’s possible by testing new ideas and iterating fast.

What you’ll need to be successful

  • Extensive software engineering experience, ideally with hands-on game development and production systems.
  • Strong experience with Unity3D and a deep understanding of mobile game pipelines.
  • Proven track record training and deploying ML models using PyTorch.
  • Practical experience with image generation models, multimodal models, and LLMs (incl. SFT, DPO, GRPO).
  • Proficiency with Google Vertex AI for end-to-end ML development.
  • Experience with LLM agents and adaptive systems in complex environments.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with legal, SecOps, IT, and exec stakeholders in a highly matrixed org.
  • Clear communicator and problem-solver - able to move fast without breaking trust or quality.

Why join us
There are many reasons to join us, but here are a few:

  • We strongly believe we are changing how games studios operate and at the core of what we do is making great games that create a connected community
  • We're not just about making Games Where You Belong. We're also about building communities where our people belong. That's why Fortis is a thriving environment that celebrates diversity, embraces inclusivity, and fosters growth.
  • Build and grow with a seasoned team of accomplished talent who have left an impactful mark in their disciplines, both in and out of gaming
