Risepoint is an education technology company that provides world-class support and trusted expertise to more than 100 universities and colleges. We primarily work with regional universities, helping them develop and grow their high-ROI, workforce-focused online degree programs in critical areas such as nursing, teaching, business, and public service. Risepoint is dedicated to increasing access to affordable education so that more students, especially working adults, can improve their careers and meet employer and community needs.
Risepoint is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to design and scale secure, automated delivery systems across our engineering organization. In this role, you’ll define and deliver a strategy that measurably improves deployment frequency, reduces change failure rate, and strengthens release safety.
This is an influence leadership role – you'll spend roughly 40% of your time partnering with engineering teams and leadership to understand needs, build consensus, and drive adoption - and 60% delivering the automation and platforms that enable them. Your primary deliverable is organizational capability, not just working code.
This Role Requires:
- Experience successfully driving adoption of a platform, tool, or standard across multiple resistant or skeptical teams.
- Comfort with ambiguity - defining requirements from messy feedback and building roadmaps without perfect information.
- Track record of influencing through expertise, not authority.
- Energized by enabling others to be successful vs. being the hero who does everything.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with engineering teams and leadership to identify platform needs, build consensus on roadmap priorities, and drive adoption through iteration, demonstration, and measurable outcomes.
- Design and scale reusable CI/CD patterns using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions, embedding compliance, security scanning, and advanced deployment strategies (e.g. blue/green, canary) as code.
- Deliver platform capabilities incrementally with tight feedback loops - shipping testable, adoptable changes every 2-4 weeks rather than long-running projects.
- Transform manual approval processes into automated, data-driven release readiness checks using policy-as-code, automated evidence gathering, and risk scoring.
- Implement pipeline intelligence: predictive caching, anomaly detection for flaky tests, and automated root-cause analysis that reduces developer toil.
What You’ll Bring:
- 7+ years in roles supporting enterprise-scale delivery systems.
- 2+ years leading technical initiatives that required work across teams gathering requirements, identifying opportunities, and delivering federated mechanisms that increase delivery velocity.
- Proven experience designing self-service platforms, reusable pipelines, and policy-as-code frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, IaC (Terraform, Helm, Docker, etc.), and secure CI/CD practices.
- Systems thinking and curiosity - you look for leverage points, not toil points.
- Ability to influence automation, documentation, and enablement.
- Excellent technical leadership and mentorship skills; clear communication and vision alignment.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with incident and reliability automation (e.g., automated RCA, remediation workflows, observability-driven deployment gates).
- Exposure to AI/ML Ops pipelines, including security and compliance for model delivery and data workflows.
- Familiarity with GitHub Apps, Actions SDKs, or platform extensibility for building automation services.
The Opportunity
This role is for someone who doesn’t just automate tasks—they design systems that scale securely and intelligently. You’ll help Risepoint build delivery platforms that improve themselves over time, enabling engineering teams to focus on what matters most: delivering reliable, secure, high-impact software at scale.
Risepoint is an equal-opportunity employer and supports a diverse and inclusive workforce.
