Role Summary

Renew Home is seeking a Staff Sales Engineer to serve as the technical bridge between our commercial organization, external partners, and internal teams. In this role, you will provide technical expertise throughout the sales lifecycle—supporting utility engagements, omnichannel partnerships, and strategic business opportunities while helping ensure successful solution design and execution.

You will partner closely with the Partnerships team to advance opportunities from initial discovery through contract execution by leading technical discussions, validating solution design, and supporting proposal and Scope of Work development. You will also collaborate across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Delivery, Customer Success, and Analytics to translate market needs into actionable technical requirements, ensure alignment on product capabilities, and support consistent, accurate external messaging.

Success in this role requires the ability to engage confidently with utilities, DERMS providers, implementation contractors, technology partners, and internal stakeholders alike. You'll serve as a trusted technical advisor, helping bridge commercial objectives with operational execution while creating scalable processes that enable Renew Home's continued growth.

This role reports to the Head of Partnerships.

What You Will Do

Provide Technical Sales Engineering Support

  • Serve as the technical counterpart to the Partnerships team throughout the sales process.
  • Lead technical discovery sessions to understand customer and partner requirements, constraints, and program objectives.
  • Validate solution design, technical feasibility, and implementation approach for new opportunities.
  • Support proposal development by providing technical guidance for proposals, Scopes of Work, and commercial documentation.

Represent Renew Home Externally

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor in meetings with utilities, DERMS providers, implementation contractors, technology partners, and other strategic stakeholders.
  • Communicate Renew Home's capabilities, solution architecture, dispatch strategies, integration approaches, measurement and verification (M&V), and operational expectations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Build credibility with external partners while supporting successful deal progression and long-term relationships.

Drive Cross-Functional Alignment

  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Delivery, Marketing, Customer Success, and Partnerships to ensure technical alignment across opportunities.
  • Translate market and partner feedback into actionable insights that inform product roadmap, messaging, and go-to-market strategy.
  • Coordinate across internal and external teams to ensure clear communication and successful program design.

Support Commercial Readiness and Program Success

  • Review and validate technical assumptions, solution architecture, and operational expectations prior to contract execution.
  • Help ensure commercial commitments align with product capabilities and delivery readiness.
  • Support structured handoffs from Partnerships to Delivery and Customer Success by providing technical documentation, context, and implementation guidance.
  • Contribute to scalable processes and best practices that improve execution across Renew Home's growing portfolio of utility and partner programs.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Technical Consulting, or a related technical customer-facing role.
  • Experience partnering cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, Customer Success, and commercial teams.
  • Experience working with utilities, grid-edge technologies, distributed energy resources, or large-scale energy programs.
  • Strong understanding of demand response, load flexibility, virtual power plants, and/or distributed energy resource management concepts.
  • Experience leading technical customer or partner engagements and translating complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience supporting proposals, technical documentation, and customer presentations.
  • Preferred: Experience working with DERMS platforms, implementation contractors, system integrations, or utility program delivery partners.
  • Desire to be part of a fast-moving organization with ambitious goals and a collaborative culture.
