Our hybrid model combines a mix of in-person (at client site or AlixPartners office) and remote working. Travel could be part of this position, but the frequency may vary based on client, team, and individual circumstances.

What you’ll do:

As the Staff Software Engineer at AlixPartners, you will create scalable, reliable, and high-performing software solutions that multiply our clients’ results and drive business growth.

Modernize and mature existing platforms, drive adoption of best engineering processes, foster innovation, and accelerate productivity. 

As a software engineer specializing in platform infrastructure and DevOps, you will participate in the full engineering life cycle which includes designing, developing, optimizing, and deploying new product solutions and infrastructure at production scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Build and deploy highly available, scalable, and fault tolerant platforms to run production applications that solve business problems.
    • Understand the needs and challenges across operations and development; and formulate solutions that advance both business and technical goals.
    • Develop reusable, high-value technical patterns and solutions encompassing technology, process, and people for:
      • Continuous Delivery
      • Infrastructure strategy & operations
      • Build and release management
      • Information Security
    • Develop and implement state-of-the-art platform infrastructure DevOps, DevSecOps, and industry best practices.
    • Work closely with development and infrastructure teams to ensure that solutions are designed with customer user experience, scale/performance, and operability in mind.
  1. Accelerate the standardization of infrastructure and deployment platform to enable high velocity software development.
    • Participate in the full software development life cycle (SDLC) including designing distributed systems, writing documentation and unit/integration tests, and conducting code reviews.
    • Develop, train, and drive adoption of modern software DevSecOps principles, guidelines, processes, re-usable tools, and technologies to maximize efficiency and accelerate productivity for Platform and 3rd-party engineers.
    • Ensure alignment, consistency, and uniformity across the firm to help streamline workflows and procedures for product innovation.
  1. Advance the maturity of the engineering guild through technical leadership through best practices and adoption of newer technologies.
    • Provide mentorship, create or identify engineering training programs and continuous learning opportunities for all P&P engineers.
    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to pinpoint opportunities for technological advancements and creative solutions.
    • Collaborate with infrastructure stakeholders and continue to contribute expertise on overall technical feasibility, technology selection, implementation approach, and architecture of existing and new solutions.
What you’ll need:
  • 6+ years of experience using one or more of the following IaC frameworks: Azure Bicep, CloudFormation, or Terraform.

  • 6+ years of experience working on public cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and associated deep understanding of failover, high-availability, high scalability, and security.

  • 4+ years of experience working with Docker containers.

  • 4+ years of experience with Unix/Linux system administration and scripting.

  • 4+ years of experience with administering and managing Kubernetes clusters (EKS, GCP, or AKS) and Helm (optional).

  • 4+ years of experience programming with Python, C#, C/C++, Java, Go, or similar programming language.

  • 4+ years of experience with authentication mechanisms including LDAP, Active Directory and SAML.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and influence decision-making; adept at translating complex technical details to diverse audiences.

  • Project management skills, including experience with Agile methodologies and project management tools.

  • Ability and willingness to work long hours and travel, if necessary, to meet client demands.

  • Ability to work full-time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday.

  • Willingness to work outside of normal U.S. business hours, and in particular as unique projects/needs arise.

Additional Qualifications:

  • One or more configuration management tools: Ansible, Salt, Puppet, or Chef

  • One or more monitoring and analytics platforms: Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, SumoLogic, NewRelic, DataDog, CloudWatch, Nagios

  • CI/CD deployment pipelines: Jenkins, TravisCI, Gitlab CI, AWS CodePipeline

  • Version control and git workflows

  • Developed software supporting business consulting fields or enterprise SaaS HashiCorp Vault and integrating it with Kubernetes for secret management

  • Deploying end-to-end logging solutions such as the EFK stack

  • Deploying Prometheus and various exporters (postgres, elasticsearch, etc)

  • Hadoop framework

  • Distributed databases and query languages such as SQL or HQL: Databricks, Hive, Aster Data, Greenplum, Cassandra, Vertica, Amazon Redshift, Snowflake

  • Collaborating with the Networking and Security infrastructure teams to achieve and maintain baseline security standards

The firm offers a comprehensive benefits program including health, vision, dental, disability, 401K, tuition reimbursement, identity theft protection, and mental wellness support. Employees will also receive a generous paid leave policy including vacation/personal time starting at 7.34 hours per pay period, sick time up to 80 hours annually, parental leave and twelve holidays.  

The salary range for this role takes into account a number of factors and is between $175,000/year - $275,000 range/year with potential eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
