Our flagship service is Skylark, a 24/7 GNSS corrections service that allows for centimeter-level navigation - safely. Skylark consists of a global GNSS station network, redundant data center architecture, and state of the art monitoring algorithms to ensure 99.9% guaranteed availability and fewer than 1 failure per 1,142 years of driving. To give you a sense of our scale, we process 1.4 billion satellite signals per hour.

We’re looking for a State Estimation & Modeling Engineer to help us build our space weather modeling engine, Skylark, which measures, models, and predicts the ionosphere error on GNSS signals in real-time. Using Skylark with an off-the-shelf GNSS receiver allows our users to achieve centimeter-level accuracy, anywhere in the world. You will be intimately involved in designing and implementing mathematical models to robustly estimate GNSS error sources. 

The Skylark Corrections Team is composed of smart and thoughtful engineers of a variety of skill sets, from precise GNSS algorithms to applied math to real-time software systems.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Drive mathematical model design and implementation for estimating GNSS error sources with an emphasis on clean and robust code.
  • Own the entire life cycle of a model, including design, prototyping, implementation, debugging, tuning, deployment, and operation.
  • Focus on consistent delivery of high quality services that move the company towards achieving short and long term objectives
  • Coach and mentor team on modeling best practices.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar.
  • Deep experience in one or more of the following: estimation theory, applied math, spatial modeling, gaussian processes, statistical learning.
  • Very strong software engineering skills including: modern C++ & Python, testing methodology, coding aesthetics, debugging complex systems, and experience working on sophisticated numerical systems. 
  • Excellent problem solving capabilities and judgment with a detailed but flexible approach. Ability to make sound, scalable decisions.
  • Proven technical leadership across teams. 
  • High emotional intelligence and empathy. Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and team coaching.
  • Outstanding communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, with proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Desire to learn new things constantly.

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Experience with one or more of the following: precise GNSS positioning, GNSS corrections, and/or other positioning algorithms.
  • Experience operating real-time sensor networks such as GNSS, weather, ground stations, etc.
  • Experience with software development for regulated industries (e.g., automotive, aerospace, medical devices), including familiarity with relevant standards and certifications.
  • Experience with Eigen and/or CUDA
  • Experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and automated testing/validation frameworks specific to complex, large-scale, distributed systems.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000 - $205,000  + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
