About the Role
  • In a fast paced, high expectation, results oriented environment, the SVP Corporate Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and support across the organization, including, in connection with, legal, regulatory, compliance, governance, transactional, and operational matters.
  • This role partners with senior leadership and business units to identify risks, support strategic initiatives, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, while balancing legal considerations with business objectives.

What You'll Be Doing (Core Responsibilities)

  • Legal and Regulatory
    • Provide legal advice and guidance to senior leadership and business units on legal, regulatory, compliance, governance, transactional, intellectual property and operational matters.
    • Research and evaluate legal and regulatory risks related to business decisions and operations.
    • Provide legal counsel regarding loan origination activities and applicable regulatory requirements.
    • Handle inquiries, examinations, and communications with regulatory agencies and authorities.
    • Monitor legal and regulatory developments and advise on potential business impacts.
  • Corporate Governance and Compliance
    • Maintain and support corporate governance best practices, policies, and protocols.
    • Oversee the administration and maintenance of the company’s regulatory compliance program.
    • Develop, implement, update, and monitor company policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks.
    • Partner with business leaders to ensure operational practices align with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Contracts and Transactions
    • Negotiate, draft, review, and interpret contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
    • Provide legal support for corporate transactions, strategic initiatives, and business growth opportunities.
    • Structure, negotiate, and document debt and equity financing transactions.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to facilitate successful business transactions.
  • Litigation and Risk Management
    • Manage corporate litigation matters and oversee outside counsel.
    • Support default management, loss mitigation, and related litigation activities.
    • Identify legal and regulatory risks and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
    • Provide guidance on dispute resolution, settlements, and enforcement matters as needed.
    • Ensure documentation and business practices support defensibility and risk reduction.

Requirements

Education

  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in good standing in any U.S. state or the District of Columbia.

Required Experience:

  • 6–10 years of legal experience required.
  • Law firm experience required, combined in-house counsel experience preferred.
  • Strong legal research, drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Excellent business judgment and practical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting financial services, lending, or regulated business environments preferred.

Remote Work Requirements

  • Stable, reliable internet connection.
  • Professional and dedicated remote working setup.

Preferred Background / Industry Experience:

  • Financial services, commercial lending, banking, mortgage lending, fintech, or other highly regulated industries.

  • Legal research & analysis – Interprets laws and regulations to support business decisions.
  • Risk management – Identifies legal risks and recommends mitigation strategies.

Benefits

What We Offer

💰 Compensation includes a base salary of $125,000-$150,000, plus incentive compensation eligibility (equity and deferred cash bonus), based on level and company policy.

🏖️ Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage; a 401(k) with company match; and paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).

🌍 Work Environment: This is a remote role with occasional travel.
