About the Role:
As a Tax Manager - Sales Tax, you will independently manage the sales/use tax tasks and support comprehensive team projects to ensure all tax-related outcomes meet high-quality standards. Your depth of experience will be essential for analyzing intricate tax situations and providing insights that safeguard the organization's compliance and maximize favorable tax positions.

Responsibilities include:

  •  Tax research and determining proper classification and taxation of products. Experience with software and digital goods preferred.
  • Review and set up processes for Sales Tax compliance
  • Address inquiries from customers
  • Address inquiries from the business
  • Resolve notices in a timely manner (30 days); monitor status of notices using Notice software tool
  • Managing indirect tax audits
  • Managing staff of two
  • Work with IT with respect to migrating to Vertex O series
  • Overseeing the Vertex tax engine on a monthly basis and working with team on any necessary changes or updates
  • Compliance with established internal controls, i.e. confirming rates updates and handling of recurring internal control reviews.
  • Preparation and Review of Sales Tax Account reconciliations in Blackline, including data reconciliations between G/L and Vertex report and data reconciliation of Sales Tax Payable account
  • Prepare for and assist in negotiating VDA’s, as necessary
  • Review customer sales tax exemption certificates
  • Prepare purchase exemption certificates
  • Conduct timely nexus reviews
  • Prepare tax exposure calculations where needed.
  • Assist with Canada GST/HST implications and/or compliance, when necessary.

Experience:

• 10+ years of solid sales/use tax experience with at least 3+ years of state audit experience. 

• Must be willing to be hands-on and comfortable navigating financial ERP systems, tax technology tools and implementing process improvements. 

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and proficiency in Excel is required (Pivot tables, Look up formula’s etc.). 

• Ideal candidate will be a self-starter, resourceful and can oversee the day-to-day divisional sales/use tax matters with limited direction.

• Position requires deep knowledge of Vertex O Series and SAP. 

• High level of knowledge of Personal Property Tax and Business Licensing preferred.

• Communicates difficult concepts and influences others to adopt a different point of view
• Acts as advisor on advanced and broad ranging projects

Minimal, <5% domestic

Compensation:

$98,500.00 - $172,700.00 USD
This role is eligible for Bonus.

Compensation range listed is based on primary location of the position.  Actual base salary offer is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skills, experience and actual hiring location. Your recruiter can share more information about the specific offer for the job location during the hiring process.
