NELSON is currently seeking a Technical Designer I to join our Industrial Practice. The Technical Designer I is responsible for basic design and construction document assignments. The Technical Designer works with the project team and assists in the overall efforts for the successful completion of the design, documentation, and construction of the project (projects include: industrial buildings, warehouses, distribution centers, logistics facilities, etc.). This position requires working in-person.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Assist other team members while conducting field surveys as required.
- Participate in the design process as directed.
- Provide material, product, and system research and compile project data.
- Assist in the preparation of construction documents and specifications.
- Order samples and create material boards.
- Update design documents and incorporate “red lines” as needed.
- Prepare Addenda and Bulletin documentation.
- Maintain and update rack sets and projects records.
- Plot/Prepare drawings for digital transmittance to consultants, clients and/or contractor.
- Log Shop Drawings and assist in Shop Drawing comment translation.
- Follow NELSON standards and guidelines in the preparation of deliverables.
- Review your own work and make corrections prior completing an assignment.
- Maintain and archive electronic project files.
- Provide project administrative back-up (make copies, scanning documents, prepare packages for shipping, etc.) as required.
- Assist team as reasonably required.
- Assist in the programming phases as directed.
- Assist with the schematic phases as directed (sketching, input of sketches, modification of schematic test fit plans, etc.).
- Embrace specific steps to create, develop and promote a diverse workforce and to promote an inclusive environment
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of expectations related to high quality service to clients
- Basic knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness
- Basic understanding of building regulations, life safety codes and ADA requirements
- Basic understanding of the construction process
- Basic understanding of project budgets and schedules
- Basic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and processes involved in production of Construction Documents
- Basic knowledge of the construction process as it relates to the drawings being produced
- Ability to hand draw and sketch
- Ability to communicate effectively. both verbally and in writing
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks as needed to complete within the identified time frame
- Ability to manage time working to project deadlines
- Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop
- Proficiency in Revit is preferred
- Basic knowledge in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. PowerPoint a plus
- Basic knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in: Architecture, Architectural Drafting, or related field
- Knowledge in both Revit and AutoCAD is preferred
- Must be deadline-oriented
- Strong attention to detail
Must be able to work in-person in Itasca, IL
National salary range (regional cost of living factors, certification, etc. are considered into the hiring process): $50,000 – $75,000. Additional compensation includes bonuses and benefits. Bonuses can include but are not limited to: Long Term Incentive Plan, Short Term Incentive Plan, Profit Sharing.
