Compensation:
The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $143,000.00 to $238,400.00. This position is eligible for participation in our short-term incentive program in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan.
The range provided is not a guarantee of compensation. The range reflects the potential base pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual base pay compensation will depend, in part, on factors such as geographic work location and relevant experience and skills. The anticipated compensation range described above is subject to change and the compensation ultimately paid may be higher or lower than the range described above.
Position Details:
The Technical Product Manager role aligns to the Enablement and Platform Engineering organization. The Grainger Enablement & Platform Engineering organization is a design-focused, automation and orchestration-driven service engineering organization that simplifies complex technology solutions into low-friction services and platform product offerings. You will help build the Product Management foundation for the Enablement & Platform Engineering organization and define clear product visions and roadmaps for the core product offering. You will work closely with engineering teams to receive requirements and feedback that will influence your roadmaps.
You will report to the Sr. Manager Product engineering and be based in Lakeforest or Mart 2 days a week.
You Will:
- Relentlessly chase value-driven outcomes that are measurable.
- Contribute to and organize the strategic direction of Enablement and Platform Engineering.
- Bring a system thinking mind set to developer experience challenges, bringing both long term and short-term solutions.
- Partner with engineering leadership to understand capacity plans, automation plans, and create comprehensive plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges
- Bring a product suite mindset to the complete portfolio of products and services offered by Enablement and Platform Engineering. Connecting all of the services into a holistic engineering system improves the day-to-day experience of our engineers.
- Empower engineers to focus by deflecting or deferring low value work.
- Foster a culture of emotional intelligence, high trust and direct feedback with your partner teams as well as supporting it in the Platform Engineering organization
- Partner with Engineering Managers and Tech Leads for the products in your portfolio.
- Tell stories about your products with clear roadmaps, customer journey maps, product decision records, and other product management tools and techniques.
- Develop lasting partnerships with the customers using E&PE products, and other stakeholders and be able to effectively prioritize their needs in alignment with a larger strategic direction and GTG objectives.
- Gather feedback from engineering teams to ensure the platform addresses pain points and accelerates development workflows. Build Customer Advisory Boards for critical products and ensure smooth operations. Ensure engineers get direct feedback and contact with their customers.
- Communicate product updates, timelines, and risks to stakeholders in engineering, product management, and business leadership
- Help build and enrich an inclusive work environment comprised of people from diverse backgrounds
- Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team including interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and on-boarding new employees
You Have:
- 5+ years of direct management or large initiative management experience in a technology role
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to balance short-term needs with long-term strategic investments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience defining a technical product vision and supporting roadmap that convey plans at multiple levels of technical depth.
- Experience tying roadmap objectives to measurable outcomes.
- Communication and cross-collaboration experience
