Forbes connects and convenes the most influential communities ranging from billionaires, business leaders and rising entrepreneurs to creators and innovators. Forbes is the gold standard for lists, including the Forbes 400, 30 Under 30 and America’s Best Employers. We are seeking an experienced business writer with research, reporting and data analysis skills to write articles that accompany our “best” employer rankings and other lists produced in partnership with Statista.

In addition to writing and reporting, this person will also handle some correspondence relating to Statista lists and will relay to Forbes any changes and updates to company profiles requested by companies. If there is time, this person may also contribute to research, reporting and writing involving our Top Hospitals list.

This position is ideal for candidates with first-rate writing skills, a business reporting background, experience covering health and healthcare, and fluency with data sets involving surveys and publicly available information, including data from the Centers For Medicare & Medicaid Services. This will be a part-time role, up to 25 hours a week.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate Statista lists to identify industry trends and potentially problematic companies that may need to be removed from a list due to alleged misconduct.
  • Report and write features and, in some instances, list “landers” for Statista projects/rankings. This includes producing compelling introductions, articles and other content for the site. This will also involve fact-checking your work.
  • Source photos from featured companies along with photo credits and possible captions. If needed, build articles in Forbes’ content management system—which would include placing photos and inputting keywords and links where appropriate.

The Ideal Candidate

  • At least 7 years of writing in a digital newsroom. Experience in business journalism is preferred. Experience with health and science journalism is a plus.
  • Ability to write clean, compelling storylines in a smart, clear, authoritative and original voice.
  • Deadline- and detail-oriented. Must be willing to fact-check as needed.
  • Familiarity working with data sets and enthusiastic about working on a wide range of subjects.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Engaging interpersonal skills—we want people who are collaborative, kind and communicative.

The hourly rate for this role is $40.00 - $60.00

Forbes has estimated the compensation range set forth above in good faith.  The compensation range is what we believe we will offer, and ultimately pay, a successful candidate.  In determining this range, we consider the experience, level of education (if applicable to the role), knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be had by a successful candidate as well as the budget and the company’s pay rates, generally. This said, we may have to make changes to our compensation estimates and job descriptions from time to time and we expressly reserve the right to do so.  Should we make any such changes, this advertisement will be revised to reflect such revisions.  We encourage you to occasionally re-visit this advertisement to ensure that you are abreast of any changes.  Thank you for your interest in joining Forbes!
