Role: Product Designer

Base Salary: $130,000 - $145,000 USD

Description:

We’re looking for a versatile and collaborative UI/UX Designer. You will shape intuitive, polished experiences across our Angular-based web applications, Ionic-based mobile apps, and our external website. You’ll also play a key role in enhancing tools for event planners within our managed Salesforce application. Using the Salesforce Lightning Design System (SLDS), you'll create thoughtful, consistent interfaces tailored to the Salesforce environment.

You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, and QA to translate customer needs and business goals into clean, usable interfaces. This role balances product UI/UX work with some design ownership over our company website, ensuring a consistent brand experience across customer-facing touchpoints.

What you’ll do:

  • Establish and own a centralized design system to unify UX/UI across products and align with our brand guidelines
  • Audit and align existing applications (web, mobile, and Salesforce-native) to that system
  • Serve as a design advocate and educator within the company—establishing best practices, design standards, and a culture of design thinking
  • Design and deliver UX flows, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes
  • Collaborate daily with product managers, engineers, and QA through the entire development cycle including discovery and usability testing
  • Lead the design experience for our Salesforce-native apps, using and extending Salesforce Lightning Design System (SLDS)
  • Ensure a responsive, accessible, and user-friendly design across all devices
  • Maintain high standards of usability, clarity, and visual consistency
  • Work with engineers to ensure your designs are implemented faithfully (and feasibly)

What we look for:

  • 5 years of UI/UX design experience with web and mobile apps, preferably in a SaaS or B2B setting
  • Proficiency in Figma or a similar tool for design and prototyping
  • Familiarity with Angular and Ionic frameworks preferred
  • Experience designing for (or interest in learning) Salesforce Lightning Design System (SLDS)
  • Strong grasp of usability, hierarchy, and responsive UI patterns
  • Proven experience designing for accessibility (WCAG compliance, keyboard navigation, color contrast, screen reader support, etc.)
  • Experience building or managing a design system, ideally in a collaborative environment
  • Comfortable working within platform or technical constraints and adapting your designs accordingly
  • Strong communicator and cross-functional collaborator in remote-first environment

Bonus experience:

  • Experience with Salesforce or other enterprise systems
  • Previous work modernizing or maintaining a company website
  • Interest in user research, journey mapping, or analytics-informed design
  • Background working with customers in higher education, healthcare, or nonprofit industries
  • Familiarity with emerging AI design tools

What we offer

  • An incredible team of smart and supportive people
  • A deep feeling of satisfaction and completion
  • Fully remote global team working from home
  • Stock options for every employee
  • Flexible work week
  • $400 office stipend
  • Maternity/Paternity leave
  • Student loan debt assistance
  • Pledge 1% - time off during the year for helping nonprofits
  • Health insurance contribution (if in the US)
  • Children's 529 college fund assistance (if in the US)

About Blackthorn

We have four native apps on the Salesforce AppExchange for managing Events, collecting Payments, sending Messages, and protecting Data. We’re a growing, distributed team with teammates in countries across the world. We move fast and have a significant structure in our product build process. Everyone on our team has deep experience within their respective roles. Our customers span from 1-person companies to Fortune 500s.

Why is our work important

Our apps continue to be easy to use and setup, due to continuous refinements with our UX. Most apps in our space take weeks to implement; ours take hours, and they work more flexibly, achieving significantly more functionality than our competitors. We believe enterprise apps should be as easy to use as consumer mobile apps.

What the job will bring you

A deep level of satisfaction through ownership of your role. You'll get more autonomy than at other companies (our team has told us). Connection. Our team is tightly knit, assisted through our annual company trip (as we're remote). Challenge. We're trying to move as quick as possible. This is not for you if you want to sit back and chill. As Ray Dalio says about life: "Meaningful work and meaningful relationships" provide meaning to life. We aim to bring this.

While we are a Remote first culture we are currently only able to accept applicants in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, KY, MD, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, SD, TX, VA, WA, and WI
