Reporting directly into our Senior Director of Commercial Strategy & Operations, The Underwriting and Premium Audit Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the underwriting and audit teams by analyzing workers' compensation policy data, monitoring premium audit trends, and identifying opportunities to optimize pricing accuracy and risk assessment. This individual collaborates with cross-functional teams including underwriting, finance, compliance, and data analytics to ensure the integrity and efficiency of underwriting and audit processes.

How You’ll Do It

Insights and Analysis:

  • Analyze policy-level underwriting data and post-bind premium audit results to identify trends, patterns, and discrepancies
  • Support development and maintenance of audit tracking tools to monitor backlog, closure rates, and audit effectiveness
  • Partner with underwriters to evaluate audit findings and escalate unproductive audits or material misclassifications
  • Investigate and reconcile discrepancies in reported payroll and class code allocations between audit and policy issuance
  • Develop and maintain reporting dashboards to provide actionable insights on audit performance, underwriting leakage, and risk segmentation
  • Monitor unproductive audit rates, categorize audit outcomes, and work with internal partners to streamline workflow
  • Identify areas of improvement in underwriting accuracy and audit effectiveness, and recommend system/process enhancements
  • Support ad hoc analyses for state filings, pricing strategy, or regulatory compliance as needed
  • Maintain audit completion metrics using key indicators such as policy effective date, policy term, audit type, and audit closure status
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to underwriting, audit, and executive leadership

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and data visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI
  • Familiarity with workers' compensation classifications, audit standards, and NCCI/ISO reporting guidelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative mindset with a drive to improve operational efficiency and accuracy

Stakeholder Management and Communication:

  • Act as a trusted business partner for key stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
  • Ability to multi-task and strong organization skills
  • Ability to take a report or dashboard and develop a program, or recurring rhythm to create constant focus to the metrics and trending that matter
  • Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the organization and act as a trusted advisor
  • Ability to influence strategic thought through data driven insights
The Right Stuff
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, Data Analytics, or a related field
  • 2–4 years of experience in workers' compensation underwriting, premium audit, or insurance analytics
  • Prior experience with insurance policy systems, data marts, and reporting tools is preferred.
  • Advanced data presentation skills, including building out reports and dashboards.
  • Prefers to base decisions on data and ROI
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and can navigate complexity; able to direct work and provide analysis  even when limited information or inputs are available
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Consistent experience juggling multiple deliverables simultaneously
  • The ability to work well under pressure and problem solve
  • Self-driven work style and consistent exercise of independent judgment in matters of significance
  • Advanced Microsoft Office and Google Suite skills with the ability to quickly learn new systems and technology
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills while maintaining a strong attention to detail
