The Vegetable Seeds Legal Counsel will:

  • Advise NAJAK Vegetable Seeds team (“Business”) on, lead and co-ordinate transactional legal matters in order to mitigate risks and increase the profitability of the Syngenta group.
  • Deal with the legal conduct of certain strategic or corporate projects or issues relating to the Business.
  • Represent Global Headquarters in relation to the implementation of corporate training programs on competition law compliance and other legal issues in the concerned BU and/or Region.
  • Support the delivery of the strategic objectives of Syngenta and of the concerned BU.
  • Ensure that all activities of the NAJAK Vegetable Seeds are undertaken in accordance with the legal standards prescribed by the Syngenta Code of Conduct.

Job Description

  • Be a business partner for the NAJAK Region of Vegetable Seeds BU, assisting on transactional matters for the  BU commercial operations in a resource-efficient manner by providing a high-quality, proactive, objective, and commercially-oriented legal services and advice, in respect to a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to distribution and collaboration agreements, quality claims and litigations, and IP-related matters.
  • Liaise with other functional departments within Syngenta and, where necessary, act as the point of coordination to ensure the proper implementation of Syngenta business proposals and projects.
  • Assess proposed commercial relationships in order to ensure that their implications are fully understood, to structure and to draft/negotiate and finalize definitive agreements to ensure these relationships are properly defined and recorded.
  • Advise on the creation, operation, amendments to, and termination of such relationships.
  • Ensure, in respect of assigned work projects and areas of responsibility, that the activities of the NAJAK Region of the Vegetable Seeds BU are conducted in compliance with Syngenta Group policies and applicable laws.
  • Provide comprehensive training to NAJAK Vegetable Seeds personnel on competition law and/or other legal aspects of strategic importance.
  • Develop and continuously improve knowledge and expertise in key areas of law central to achieving Syngenta's objectives and strategy.
  • Key interactions/relationships with other positions: at all levels of seniority within Syngenta; internal and external lawyers; and business and legal personnel employed by major competitors, customers, and suppliers.

Corporate accountabilities, in addition to NAJAK Vegetable Seeds support:

  • Lead US lawyer supporting US real estate matters.
  • Serve as US Data Privacy Officer, responsible for advising on changes in US data privacy laws and ensuring overall compliance.

Qualifications

  • A law degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction in the US.
  • At least 5+ years of law firm and/or in-house experience.
  • Exposure in a commercial environment to commercial, intellectual property, data privacy, product liability, and real estate.
  • Ability to think creatively, function independently, and work proactively in a fast-paced environment.
