ROLE OVERVIEW

The Vice President of Capital Markets is responsible for leading the capital formation strategy, origination, and execution of all financings, including tax equity, preferred equity, and debt facilities. This role will oversee the Capital Markets team, ensuring consistent, high-quality execution while building scalable processes that support the enterprise capital strategy. 

This role will focus on day-to-day leadership and origination of capital sources: mentoring team members, managing negotiations and closings, refining workflows to ensure capital origination functions scale efficiently and responsibly, and relationship building and maintenance. This role would be expected to travel regularly to build and maintain those relationships. The VP will partner with the VP of Project Finance, VP of Corporate Finance, and the CFO on broader financing strategy.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead day-to-day origination of all project finance facilities, including tax equity, preferred equity, development loans, and construction facilities, to support the long-term financing strategy.
  • Negotiate legal and operative transaction documents in partnership with counsel and advisors, ensuring alignment with strategic capital objectives and terms that maximize commercial impact, optimize execution efficiency, and streamline reporting requirements.
  • Manage and mentor Capital Markets team members, developing technical and leadership skills.
  • Drive continuous improvement of Capital Markets processes, documentation standards, and origination practices.
  • Collaborate with Finance leadership and executive team on capital formation strategy.
  • Execute upon Capital Markets strategy, including the origination of facilities, structures, and relationships that are needed today and looking forward to support the business.
  • Establish feedback loops with Project Finance, FP&A, Accounting, and commercial operations functions to integrate historical and forecasted performance data into liquidity planning, capital access, and investor communications.
  • Partner with Corporate Finance to integrate Capital Markets insights into enterprise forecasting, liquidity planning, and covenant management.
  • Build scalable processes with Project Delivery, O&M, Asset Management, and Revenue Operations to connect operations and capital strategy.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum of 8+ years in project finance, capital markets, corporate finance, or a similar position.
  • Proven track record of structuring and leading complex financings at scale (tax equity, preferred equity, debt for renewable projects and portfolios).
  • Demonstrated success in senior leadership: developing leaders, shaping organizational design, driving cross-functional alignment.
  • Strong external presence with capital providers, banks, and investors.
  • Systems-level thinker with the ability to balance execution oversight and strategic design.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and executive communication skills.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES

  • Familiarity with ERP systems and financial reporting platforms (e.g., Intacct, Procore) and their integration across departments.
  • Proven track record of executive-level relationship management with banks, investors, and rating agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and scale organizations – creating new management layers, building succession plans, and fostering leadership at multiple levels.
  • Experience representing Finance in cross-functional executive committees or boards, influencing strategy beyond financing.
  • Familiarity with generative AI tools and methods and an ability to experiment with and adopt impactful automation through thoughtful design of human and AI workflows.
