Job DescriptionTHE POSITION:
The VP, Specialty Pharmacy Operations is responsible for leading the strategy, performance, and execution of specialty pharmacy operations, including patient management, dispensing workflows, and clinical coordination. This role ensures efficient, compliant, and patient-centered delivery of specialty pharmacy services while driving operational excellence, scalability, and cost efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead day-to-day specialty pharmacy operations including intake, verification, dispensing, and patient support services
- Oversee patient management programs to ensure adherence, persistence, and optimal clinical outcomes
- Drive operational efficiency across workflows including prior authorization, benefits investigation, and fulfillment
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and payer requirements (URAC, ACHC, state/federal)
- Develop and implement scalable operating models to support growth in specialty volume and complexity
- Partner with clinical, product, and technology teams to enhance patient experience and operational performance
- Monitor KPIs including turnaround time, adherence rates, patient satisfaction, and cost to serve
- Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Support client and manufacturer relationships tied to specialty pharmacy performance
- All other duties as assigned
PEOPLE LEADER:
- Lead, develop, and manage a high-performing operations team across pharmacy and patient services
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across all operational functions
- Recruit, train, and retain top talent in specialty pharmacy operations
EXPECTATIONS OF THE JOB:
- Travel: Up to 20%
- Hours: Full-time onsite role with flexibility based on operational needs
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required
- 10+ years of experience in specialty pharmacy operations
- Deep expertise in patient management, dispensing workflows, and reimbursement processes
- Experience managing large-scale pharmacy operations and teams
- Experience with pharmacy management systems, EMR integrations, and reporting tools
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: PharmD or MBA preferred
- Experience working with specialty pharmacy accreditation bodies (URAC, ACHC)
- Background in high-growth or multi-site pharmacy environments
- Pharmacist license
