- Client is seeking a detail-oriented Web Developer / Web Accessibility Specialist to join our Office of Strategic Communications / Digital Services team. This position is responsible for assisting in the department’s efforts to audit, remediate, and maintain all web content and digital assets across client’s online channels to ensure full compliance with the new ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Title II standards, WCAG 2.1 AA/2.2 standards, and Section 508 guidelines.
- The ideal candidate possesses extensive expertise with Microsoft SharePoint, strong web development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and experience managing digital accessibility issues in web pages, electronic documents, and embedded media.
Key Responsibilities
ADA Compliance & Remediation
- Perform comprehensive manual and automated accessibility audits on client public websites, portals, and web applications using tools like Site improve and AccessiBe.
- Remediate non-compliant HTML, CSS, JavaScript, interactive tools, and web structures across all digital channels.
- Ensure all web-published digital assets (PDFs, videos, forms, graphics, presentations, photos, and GIS maps[KL1.1]) comply with WCAG 2.1 AA standards and Section 508.
- Assist with web accessibility testing on new and existing content.
- Work closely with content creators, communications team, IT personnel, and third-party vendors to enforce web accessibility best practices.
SharePoint Development & Content Management
- Manage, maintain, and update web pages and custom components within client’s SharePoint environment.
- Create and modify custom SharePoint templates, web parts, page layouts, and CSS/JS integrations to ensure out-of-the-box and custom features comply with accessibility guidelines.
- Implement proper ARIA roles, landmarks, and semantic HTML structure within SharePoint pages.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, Graphic/Digital Design, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience: 2+ years of professional experience as a Webmaster, Front-End Developer, or Web Accessibility Specialist.
Technical Skills
- SharePoint Expertise: Proven hands-on experience managing and developing within Microsoft SharePoint Online and SharePoint Server.
- Accessibility Standards: In-depth knowledge of ADA Title II requirements, WCAG 2.1 / 2.2 Level AA guidelines, WAI-ARIA standards, and
Section 508.
- Front-End Development: Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and responsive framework concepts.
- Document Remediation: Knowledge of PDF remediation tools (Adobe Acrobat Pro DC) and accessible document creation in Microsoft Office
Soft Skills
- High attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple compliance projects simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical accessibility guidelines to non-technical users.
