Toronto-based marketing and sales technology company Maropost just opened its Chicago office.

To date, the company has made only one local hire, but it’s a big one: SVP of Sales Dustin Deno joined Maropost from Salesforce, where he was assistant vice president of retail and consumer goods.

In addition to leading Maropost’s global sales team, Deno has been tasked with growing headcount at the company’s River North office to between 80 and 100 people over the next 18 months.

“The company wanted to build an office in a place that had great access to tech talent,” said Deno. “Chicago kept coming up at the top of the list for tech sales talent. A lot of tech companies have seen success building out their business development arms here.”

Maropost was founded in 2011 as an email service provider for marketers. As the company grew, its cloud-based platform expanded in size and scope to address new customer pain points.

Today, Maropost offers two cloud-based products — one for sales teams and another for marketers — that feature solutions for everything from marketing automation to customer relationship management and advanced analytics.

According to Deno, one of Maropost’s biggest differentiators is that its platform was built from the ground to provide a holistic sales and marketing solution, as opposed to being assembled through acquisitions.

“The average B2C organization has over 25 [sales and marketing] tools,” said Deno. “Our engagement platform manages the entire customer lifecycle for B2C organizations. We provide a 360-degree view.

Maropost has a headcount of 140 people, the majority of whom are based in its Toronto headquarters.

The company, whose clients include the Golden State Warriors, Mercedes-Benz and The New York Post, has seen rapid growth in recent years. It was number 32 on Deloitte’s 2017 Technology Fast 500 list — and its Chicago office is set to continue that momentum into the future.

“We’re really ready to scale this thing,” said Deno. “There’s going to be significant growth.”
