Coates Group’s new U.S. headquarters in the West Loop were designed with collaboration in mind.
The former belt factory space features an open floor plan, technology development areas and design sprint spaces. Meeting rooms are equipped with AV systems for ease of communication with the company’s seven international offices, including its global headquarters in Sydney.
Coates, a digital merchandising solutions company, uses its cloud-based content management system, Switchboard, to provide insights on customer behavior and generate targeted content for individual consumers.
Each Coates office worldwide has an innovation lab dedicated to its market’s particular products and services. In Chicago, visitors to the lab can check out Coates’ outdoor digital signage with license plate recognition technology, as well as a variety of self-order kiosks — like those handy touch-screens at McDonald’s.
Since 2016, Coates has grown its U.S. team from five people to around 80, with plans to hire a new HR director, supply planner, installation service specialist, technical support specialist and development and operations engineer in the near future.
Chicago-based EWP Architects and Australia-based Bennett Murada Architects designed the new May Street office.
