Whether you’re in the market for a new job or looking to build on your career, the City of Chicago is hosting a new hybrid/virtual event to help residents find the perfect job.

This week, the City of Chicago and Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Hire Chicago 2021, which kicked off on Monday and runs until September 2. The five-week event is intended to connect Chicago’s workforce to the industries that are growing in the area, and is supported by partners World Business Chicago and The Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership, as well as a list of participating employers.

Hire Chicago will consist of free virtual workshops, pre-screening discussions and job interviews — with workshops and pre-screening on Mondays and Tuesdays, and job interviews on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Each of the five weeks will focus on a different industry. Here’s the breakdown for each week:

  • Week 1 started Monday and focuses on jobs in manufacturing
  • Week 2 starts August 9 and focuses on jobs in hospitality, tourism and food service
  • Week 3 starts August 16 and focuses on jobs in transportation, distribution and logistics
  • Week 4 starts August 23 and focuses on jobs in healthcare
  • Week 5 starts August 30 and focuses on jobs in technology

Anyone interested in participated can check out the schedule on the Hire Chicago website. From there, they’ll be able to grab a time slot for whatever industry interests them.

“The pandemic and many significant events over the last 15 to 16 months have changed us as people and as a city,” Mayor Lightfoot said in a statement. “Because workforce and employment unite us — we designed a five-week initiative for Chicagoans to easily access employers hiring today, or if undecided, gain access to career coaching, workshops and training programs that can ready you for the future, including unique careers driven by the new economy and our growing city’s tech and innovation ecosystem.”

Hire Chicago is also supplying additional career resources to young adults, and providing tech equipment like computers and printers to people who need it. More information about this is available on the Hire Chicago website.
