Constant Contact buys daily-deal organizing service MobManager
What began in June 2010 as a technology solution for Dave Wachtendonk to manage redemptions for aGroupon for his
murder mystery party company has led to an opportunity he never imagined.
Today, Waltham, Mass.-based email marketing company Constant Contact Inc. announced that it has bought Mr. Wachtendonk's MobManager, which helps small businesses manage their daily deals and follow up with customers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“When we would talk to daily-deal companies (while pitching MobManager), the tone was so negative. It was, ‘What can you do for us?' ” Mr. Wachtendonk told me this morning after the buyout was announced. “They talked about merchants like they were dumb. It felt wrong. It was refreshing talking to these guys who were saying, ‘What's wrong with the current model and how would we envision it looking better?' Taking care of merchants was priority No. 1.”
