Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Second Pressman to support our web printing operations, assist the First Pressman in all phases of production, and help ensure exceptional quality, efficiency, and safety on every job.  This role is ideal for a skilled web press operator who enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and takes pride in producing outstanding printed products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the First Pressman with all aspects of web press operation and inline finishing.
  • Read and interpret job jackets, production specifications, and setup instructions to ensure accurate press preparation.
  • Help produce make-readies and maintain production standards that meet customer specifications.
  • Monitor print quality and identify and correct issues such as registration, ink trapping, ghosting, piling, and other press-related defects.
  • Verify critical press settings including measurements, packing, ink, plates, conductivity, web temperatures, and related production variables.
  • Support safe and efficient operation of press equipment, including proper guarding and housekeeping practices.
  • Operate and use quality measurement tools such as densitometers, conductivity meters, blanket gauges, micrometers, and related equipment.
  • Monitor imaging quality, positioning, and synchronization.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and reporting equipment repair needs.
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors to meet production goals.
  • Step into First Pressman responsibilities when needed and help train and support other press crew members.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of web printing press experience in a manufacturing or commercial printing environment.
  • Strong understanding of web press operations, inline finishing, color control, paper characteristics, inks, blankets, and fountain solutions.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical layouts, production instructions, and job specifications.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot press-related issues.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to perform production-related calculations.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing operations and quality control processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and commitment to workplace safety.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 65 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to push or pull loads of up to 2,200 pounds using a hand lift truck.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb throughout the work shift.
  • Ability to work in hot, humid, or dusty manufacturing environments and around controlled non-toxic chemical mists or vapors.
  • Must successfully pass a color differentiation test and maintain that capability.

 Shift: 2nd shift (3:00pm – 11:00pm) or 3rd shift (11:00pm – 7:00am)
