Job Description:

At The Mutual Group, we’re building a modern actuarial organization that plays a critical role in shaping business strategy and driving profitable underwriting growth.  As an Actuarial Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced credentialed actuaries on real-world pricing and reserving initiatives across multiple lines of business.

This internship is designed for students who are passionate about pursuing an actuarial career and eager to apply classroom concepts in a professional environment. You'll have the opportunity to analyze data, solve business challenges, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to meaningful projects that directly impact the organization.  This internship provides valuable experience, mentorship, and exposure to the actuarial profession.

Work Arrangement:

  • Employees who live within 30 miles of the TMG home office are expected to follow a hybrid or in-office schedule. The initial training period may require additional in‑office days.

Accountabilities:

  • Support pricing, reserving, and other actuarial functions through data-driven analysis.

  • Gather, validate, and organize data used in actuarial models and business decision-making.

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance actuarial reports, tools, and documentation.

  • Analyze trends, identify key insights, and communicate findings to actuarial team members and business partners.

  • Collaborate with experienced actuaries on projects that influence business strategy and underwriting performance.

  • Gain exposure to multiple insurance products and actuarial disciplines.

  • Assist with special projects and initiatives that support the continued growth and innovation of the actuarial team.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related quantitative field.

  • Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Successful completion of at least one actuarial exam.

  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience with SQL, Python, R, Power BI, or other analytical tools is a plus.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly to a non-technical audience.

  • Self-motivated, curious, and eager to learn in a collaborative team environment.

  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high quality work.
