As a leading player in the industry, we're proud to be ranked No. 168 on Engineering News Record's Top 500 Design Firms list in 2025. Our unwavering dedication to cultivating an exceptional workplace environment has earned us the distinguished honor of being recognized as a Best Place to Work.

Summary

Our engineers, planners, and surveyors depend on a fast, reliable engineering application environment to deliver client work on schedule, and this role is what keeps it running. As our senior Application Administrator, you will be the primary administrator and technical lead for our engineering design and GIS platforms (Autodesk, Bentley, and Esri) and a broad portfolio of desktop, web, and business applications across virtual and physical workstations. You will build and maintain our application packaging and deployment automation, administer licensing, serve as our primary technical contact with engineering software vendors, and be the escalation point for our Service Desk on complex application issues.

This is a technical IT position, not a CAD or drafting role. You will partner closely with our CAD, BIM, and GIS managers, who own design standards and content, to package, deploy, and support those standards technically. Because deployments and upgrades are typically scheduled outside production hours so project teams aren't interrupted, regular evening and weekend maintenance windows are a normal part of this job, and you will participate in the IT on-call rotation.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the escalation point for complex application issues across engineering, productivity, and business applications, resolving them or driving them to resolution with vendors
  • Lead operational support of our CAD/BIM and GIS platforms: version standardization, deployment of the workspaces and standards our CAD managers develop, add-in compatibility, and performance on virtual and physical engineering workstations
  • Design, build, test, and maintain application packages and deployment automation; test updates and patches before production release
  • Administer license managers and licensing portals, monitor utilization and compliance, and align licensing with project staffing needs
  • Implement application monitoring, identify recurring failures, and drive permanent fixes and automation
  • Mentor the Application Administrator I and Service Desk staff, and maintain the documentation and knowledge base that keeps support consistent across offices
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What We're Looking for

  • Associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Four or more years in application administration, technical support, or IT operations, including hands-on production support of engineering design (CAD/BIM) or GIS applications
  • Experience in application packaging, deployment automation, and endpoint-management tools in a virtual desktop and physical workstation environment
  • Working knowledge of engineering software licensing models and license-manager administration
  • Experience managing vendor support cases through to resolution
  • Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical colleagues
  • Valid driver's license, the ability to travel to regional offices, and availability for regular evening and weekend deployment windows and an on-call rotation
  • IT experience within an AEC or professional-services firm, including project collaboration and document-management platforms, is preferred
  • Experience supporting graphics-intensive applications on virtual desktop infrastructure is preferred
  • Scripting or automation experience, ITIL familiarity, and relevant vendor or endpoint-management certifications are a plus

Compensation Range

$89,875.00 - $122,000.00

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Illinois Salary Transparency amendment to the Equal Pay Act of 2003.
