What’s the role?

As an Applications Engineer, you get to work with an astonishing team that plays a vital role at Carl ZEISS IQS. Show case your skills and experience with process enhancement at ZEISS. The Applications Engineer will assist our customers and our ZEISS Sales team with pre-post-sales application engineering activities such as product demonstrations, proof of concepts (POC) and sales support. Further post sales activities such as helping customer with understanding and applying our hardware and software systems.  This support can be provided in a variety of ways, including additional product demonstration, custom support classes, telephone, and on-site support. This important consultative role specifically requires professional conduct and customer orientation.

Location & Travel: This role is based in Buffalo Grove, IL and requires domestic travel of up to 50%.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Provide technical consultation and support to customers and Sales personnel, particularly regarding advanced applications and systems.

  • Assist with ZEISS Calypso programming as needed.

  • Ensure accurate and timely flow of technical information.

  • Focus on advanced applications and new ZEISS technology.

  • Support projects using ZEISS systems, including responding to customer software/application inquiries and assisting other ZEISS departments as needed.

  • Provide applications expertise for project-related activities, including analyzing customer inspection requirements.

  • Perform Gage R&R studies.

  • Support IT-related issues, including Windows operating systems, networking, and database management.

Do you qualify?

  • Four-year degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, or another technical discipline preferred; equivalent industry experience is acceptable.

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the automotive industry is preferred or equivalent professional experience with metrology products.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings for dimensional control requirements.

  • Ability to read and interpret GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

  • Strong inspection or metrology skills with experience in the manufacturing industry.

  • Proficiency with computer software and aptitude for computer-aided data analysis products.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to learn independently and address customer challenges.

  • Experience with ZEISS Calypso software and CMM programming is a plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create concise technical reports.

  • Ability to reason and negotiate complex problems with customers.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and eagerness to contribute to a high-performance, fast-growing segment of ZEISS.

The pay range for this position is $71,000 – $88,000 annually. This position is also eligible for a performance bonus.

The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.
