Summary:

The Assistant Vice President – Commercial General Liability Claims is responsible for providing claims advocacy and account management services to clients involving moderate, complex and catastrophic claims. This position is the claims contact/liaison/advocate between the client, carrier and NFP. The primary purpose is to assure clients receive exceptional service, maximization of policy coverage, in-depth advice and claims advocacy in a timely and effective manner. This will be accomplished by adhering to claims best practices, implementation of effective and consistent claims service programs and direct participation in and oversight of collaborative claims resolution strategies.


Responsibilities:

  • Senior technical specialist role involving complex and catastrophic claims, heavy litigation, in numerous State and Federal jurisdictions.
  • Serve as a trusted advocate for clients and key stakeholders by delivering strategic guidance and expert oversight in the management of general liability claims.
  • Engage collaboratively with clients, their representatives, insurers, technical experts, consultants, producers, and account managers to effectively advocate for client interests and ensure alignment across all stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of resolving client claim issues in a timely manner, ensuring clear and proactive communication of outcomes to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Prompt notification to Claims Leaders, Sale and Service team, and others of large reserve changes in excess of $100,000.
  • Maintain thorough and timely documentation within the EPIC claim file system, including detailed updates on claim activity, client and carrier interactions, and supporting documentation. Ensure all correspondence and materials are accurately filed using established naming conventions to preserve a comprehensive and auditable claim history.
  • Conduct thorough coverage analysis and research to address claim-related issues and collaborate closely with clients and their representatives to develop and present well-reasoned coverage rebuttals when appropriate (on occasion may assist other lines of business, including but not limited to Commercial Transportation/Automobile, Private Client Group, Personal Risk Teams, etc.).
  • Attend (virtually or in-person) client meetings, including claim reviews, pre-renewals, renewal, etc.
  • Support the General Liability Claim Leader and Sales Team in resolving client claim issues by providing responsive assistance and collaborative problem-solving to ensure timely and effective outcomes.
  • Provide support to Claim Leadership on a variety of initiatives, including the development and refinement of best practices, enhancement of claim service programs, and execution of ad-hoc projects.
  • Occasionally participate (virtually or in-person) in new and renewal meetings to present the NFP claim value proposition to prospects and clients.
  • Occasionally author white papers and/or give presentations on topics clients are facings.

Education, Experience and Skills Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Additional insurance certifications and/or legal background are a plus.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the commercial general liability claims industry is required.
  • Candidates must have held a Senior Claims Analyst role or higher. Additional experience in commercial insurance sales, marketing, or other lines of business is considered a strong asset.

Skills:

  • Proficiency with general liability insurance products, contractual risk transfer, claims handling and management, and processes. Strong working knowledge of transportation/automobile liability, management liability (E&O, D&O, Cyber, Crime), property and workers compensation coverages a plus.
  • Proven background of working effectively with clients and stakeholders in Claims Analyst, Service or Management capacity involving complex coverage, litigation, large and catastrophic general liability claims in jurisdictions across the United States.
  • High level of organizational skills with proven successful experience in managing multiple tasks and internal/external clients concurrently in a claims setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in written and verbal communications.
  • Customer Service – Manages difficult or emotional client situations; Responds promptly to client needs.
  • Proficiency with using broker based and carrier claims software applications. Knowledge of the EPIC system is a plus.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Suite of products including excel, outlook, word and power point.
  • Proficiency in performing web-based meetings and with performing in person audio / visual presentations to small and large size groups.
  • Proficiency in coordinating and performing technical claims discussions with internal and external clients.
  • Proficiency in coordinating claims audits and reviews.
  • Ability to stay calm, cool and collect in difficult, complex and challenging insurance matters.

The base salary range for this position is $80,000 – $132,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
