The Role
As an Associate Investment Decision Analyst, you will use your expertise in quantitative analytics, decision science, finance, and accounting to strengthen the systems that guide our investment decisions. Using your expertise in (behavioral) finance, accounting, and statistical modeling, you will assess existing investment research and decision-making processes, identify targeted improvements, and develop innovative, code-based solutions that push the boundaries of investment efficacy.
The Group
The Investment Decision Analytics team is an interdisciplinary group committed to enhancing investment research and decision-making across all asset classes - including equities, fixed income, and private markets. Our mission is to empower investor success by building robust, data-driven decision support systems that guide smarter investment strategies. The Investment Decision Analytics team is part of the Behavioral Insights Group in the Research & Investments Organization at Morningstar.
Key Responsibilities
  • Actively shape and improve investment research and decision-making processes through rigorous quantitative evaluation. Propose new methodologies, algorithms, and decision support systems based on your solid understanding of investment, (behavioral) finance, accounting, and statistics.
  • Test the efficacy of your proposed/implemented methodologies and algorithms by conducting large-scale data analysis.
  • Present findings, actionable recommendations, and decision support systems to business partners and senior management.
  • Work both independently and in a team to drive business impact.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in statistics, data science, decision science, finance, or quantitative economics.
  • High proficiency in data science programming languages, including Python and SQL. Relevant experience with data mining and advanced analytics required (please include examples when applying). Experience with AWS and Git is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of financial principles; background/experience in finance, accounting, or investments preferred.
  • CFA designation or active CFA candidacy is preferred.
  • Prior experience in the investment industry is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to collaborative problem-solving, and delivering business results.

Total Cash Compensation Range
$68,775.00 - 116,900.00 USD Annual
Inclusive of annual base salary and target incentive
