Who we want:

This position serves as a Manager of Professionals with project lead function, who advance through assigned projects along the design/development process and any legacy product care process.   

The advanced expert level allows the Project Manager to act as an expert in one or more area of competency. 

The Project Manager will continue but not be limited to perform implant and instrument design work as well as be instrumental in addressing design issues and continuously improve products.This position is the entry level of Managers in the R&D leadership organization and the first level in the people manager pathway. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Manage Professionals 
  • Manage multiple projects and tasks for either new product development, addressing design issues, maintain products or continuousely improve products 
  • Adhere to project plans and timelines within the scope of the Design Control guidelines 
  • Act as an expert in one or more area of competency, subject matter expert or process owner 
  • Manage Professionals to advance assigned projects through design/dev't process 
  • Interfacing with clinical advisors to gather input for design and evaluation of new products 
  • Utilization / Management of the Design Controls 
  • Technical report and assessment writing 
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of all aspects of the surgical procedure in order to develop and maintain innovative solutions to solve/satisfy customer needs 
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with the key design consulting groups in order to recognize and anticipate trends and user needs 
  • Mentor Professionals in best practices, industry trends and skill development 
  • Act as Independent Reviewer 
  • Other duties assigned by manager 

Special responsibilities (applicable to position with biomechanics focus): 

  • Planning and execution of  design verification and validation campaigns using internal and external capacity for testing, simulation and engineering assessments.  
  • Maintaining and optimizing lab space, machine park and capabilities in close collaboration with other lab sites. 
  • Act as R&D liaison to GQO and AO for product supply support projects ((e.g. supply disruption, value engineering, manufacturing transfers)

  • Make decisions under guidance for project level issues.
  • Leverage strong listening skills and written / verbal communication to influence and convey business, regulatory compliance, and/or technical ideas to customers, employees, peers, external partners, and senior leaders.
  • Support a culture of diversity, inclusion, and belonging at a team level in hiring and staff development.
  • Lead projects and initiatives within the business unit, with responsibility for planning, budgeting, meeting project goals and adequately staffing with talent.
  • Support and mentor others in complex cooperative efforts across cross-functional teams, influencing one's own technical areas of expertise and building key relationships, to drive innovation and ensure achievement of business goals.

Business Responsibilities: 

  • Drive financial accountability across direct team. Participate in cost center budget creation, projections, and tracking activities.
  • Contribute and execute customer facing activities like Voice of Customer and customer centric design in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

Med Device Compliance: 

  • Lead a team and cross-functional counterparts to demonstrate compliance with applicable regulatory requirements for a specific project/program.
  • Follow and set example for others on procedures and design controls.
  • Review and approve (or delegate) program / project specific technical documentation and deliverables.
  • Additional role-specific key areas of responsibility may be added as deemed necessary by the local hiring manager 

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or applicable technical field.
  • 6+ years applicable experience, with 0+ years direct people management experience preferred.
    • Alternate degree requirements (e.g. Industrial Design) and additional role-specific qualifications may be added as deemed necessary by the local hiring manager. 

Preferred Qualifications (Strongly desired):

Technical Skills: 

  • Good level of understanding of, experience in, and ability to mentor in one's own technical / functional disciplines.

Leadership Experience: 

  • Talented performance coach who is skilled at providing actionable feedback to team members, setting clear performance objectives and managing team member performance.
  • General knowledge of the healthcare market and competitors.
  • Experience executing a talent and performance management strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate plans and technical information to team members within a business unit.
  • Proven ability to deliver programs or other business goals on time, on quality and within budget.
  • Additional role-specific preferred qualifications may be added as deemed necessary by the local hiring manager. 

Travel Percentage: 20%
