About the RoleBuildOps is seeking a Chief of Staff to Engineering to partner closely with engineering leadership and help drive operational excellence across the organization.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments and enjoys bringing structure, clarity, and momentum to complex initiatives. You will help improve how the Engineering organization plans, communicates, executes, and scales. You’ll work across leaders and teams to keep priorities moving, remove friction, and ensure key initiatives translate into outcomes.
The right candidate is highly organized, analytical, low ego, and able to move fluidly between strategy and execution. They are comfortable operating behind the scenes, influencing without authority, and stepping into ambiguous situations to create order.
What You’ll Do- Partner with Engineering leadership to drive strategic priorities and improve organizational effectiveness
- Lead cross-functional initiatives from planning through execution, ensuring clear owners, timelines, risks, and follow-through
- Build and maintain operating rhythms for the Engineering organization, including planning cadences, leadership meetings, business reviews, and follow-up actions
- Help define and improve core processes across planning, prioritization, communication, and execution
- Track progress against key initiatives and surface insights, blockers, and recommendations to leadership
- Prepare materials, analysis, and recommendations for leadership discussions, decision-making, and executive updates
- Drive alignment across Engineering and cross-functional partners including Product, Design, Customer Experience, IT, and G&A
- Improve visibility into organizational health through dashboards, metrics, reporting, and structured updates
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and coordination challenges, then proactively design and implement solutions
- Support special projects related to scaling the Engineering organization, organizational design, headcount planning, vendor management, and operational readiness as needed
- Engineering leadership has stronger visibility into priorities, progress, risks, and decisions
- Cross-functional initiatives move faster and with less operational friction
- Team processes are more consistent, scalable, and predictable
- Leadership meetings are better structured and lead to clearer outcomes and accountability
- The Engineering organization is able to operate with greater focus, alignment, and execution speed
- 5+ years of experience in consulting, business operations, program management, strategy, Chief of Staff, or a similar role
- Experience supporting senior leaders in a high-growth technology company
- Strong project and program management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams at once
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex topics into clear recommendations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfort working with data to support decision-making
- Ability to influence across teams and levels without direct authority
- High level of judgment, discretion, and professionalism
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to create structure in evolving environments
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through
- Experience working closely with Engineering, Product, or Technical leadership
- Experience in SaaS or other fast-paced startup environments
- Familiarity with organizational planning, KPI development, and operating reviews
- Experience building internal processes, dashboards, and executive reporting
- Background in management consulting, business operations, or technical program management
