Akerman LLP is seeking a Competitive Intelligence Manager to support the Senior Competitive Intelligence Manager and collaborate with colleagues across Client Development, Research Services, and other firm departments to deliver high‑quality business and competitive intelligence. This role is responsible for developing, analyzing, and communicating insightful, actionable intelligence that supports strategic decision‑making related to business development, profitability, growth, and client retention. The Competitive Intelligence Manager will also play a key role in ensuring the quality and consistency of deliverables and fostering the professional development of team members.

The Competitive Intelligence (CI) team plays a vital role in advancing both attorney‑specific and firmwide initiatives. Under the direction of the Senior Competitive Intelligence Manager, this position partners closely with CI colleagues and stakeholders across the firm to execute the CI function effectively and deliver intelligence that informs and supports the firm’s strategic business objectives. Akerman has adopted a hybrid work environment.

Key Responsibilities & Knowledge Requirements:

Research, Analysis & Insight Development

  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of key individuals, companies, sectors, industries, technologies, market segments, and competitors to uncover key, actionable information and insights and summarize into concise deliverables
  • Prepare high-level strategic profiles in response to specific target opportunities such as in the preparation of a client meeting or pitch, RFPs, conferences, or other strategic initiatives for the client development team, lawyers, and firm management
  • Identify practice or client trends to support client and new business development activities
  • Extensive experience using legal and business research resources across transactional, litigation, and regulatory practice areas
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and concisely summarize litigation dockets, complaints, judicial opinions, and regulatory or enforcement matters
  • Familiarity with law firm benchmarking and performance data

Strategic Intelligence Development

  • Monitor and analyze the competitive legal environment and emerging industry trends to deliver proactive, data-driven business insights
  • Aid the CI team in developing client cross-marketing opportunity reports along with conducting research to address Akerman's competitive position in geographic locations, sectors, and practice groups
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize, interpret, and present complex client and law firm financial data and performance metrics with clarity and strategic insight
  • Projects vary in nature from the more complex research assignments to routine company/people profiling, and key target/client or sector monitoring

Client Development Support

  • Under the direction of the Senior CI Manager, support client development efforts such as conducting market/deal research and screening reports, transactional research, client history reports, and develop targeted lists
  • Support the maintenance and analysis of research request data to assess demand, demonstrate ROI, and identify patterns and trends in firm intelligence needs

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in competitive intelligence, business research, or related field
  • Law firm or professional services experience preferred
  • Proven track record of managing complex research projects and delivering strategic insights

  • Exceptional ability to conduct comprehensive research across multiple sources and synthesize complex information into actionable intelligence
  • Superior written and verbal communication abilities to translate research findings into clear, concise deliverables for attorneys and firm leadership
  • Strong analytical capabilities to identify patterns, trends, and strategic implications from diverse data sources
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Meticulous accuracy in research, analysis, and reporting
  • Ability to understand business context and provide intelligence that directly supports strategic decision-making
  • Self-starter who demonstrates intellectual curiosity, eagerness to learn, and willingness to take ownership of key projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work both independently and collaboratively across departments

Technical Proficiency:

  • Expertise in business intelligence databases and research platforms including Westlaw, Lexis, Lex Machina, Bloomberg Law, CapIQ, Pitchbook
  • Proficiency with CRM systems including InterAction
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools
  • Knowledge of legal industry resources and databases
