The Hartford’s Global Reinsurance (Navigators Reinsurance) organization is looking to transform our treaty underwriting and operations activities both now and into the future. The primary objective is to enhance our customer experience and speed to market while providing flexibility and scalability. Navigators Reinsurance is a global, underwriting-driven, specialist reinsurer operating across five locations worldwide. Since starting in 2011, Navigators Re has achieved steady growth, profitability and product diversification.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Consultant, Digital Transformation and Reporting to support our data strategy, digital transformation, and reporting initiatives.  Reporting to the NavRe Head of Operations and Actuarial, this entry-level role is ideal for a recent graduate with strong coding skills and a passion for building and maintaining technical solutions. You will work closely with IT, underwriting, actuarial, and other operations partners to implement and maintain applications, automate workflows, and support data pipeline operations—freeing up strategic bandwidth for high-level innovation.

This is a hybrid role to our Chicago, IL office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Application Maintenance & Enhancement

    • Maintain and improve existing internal applications and automation tools.

    • Implement bug fixes, performance optimizations, and minor feature enhancements.

    • Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to ensure reliability and usability.

    • Respond quickly and accurately to end-user’s suggestions on application design

  • Automation Support (including AI/GenAI)

    • Assist in building and maintaining low-level automation scripts and data ingestion pipelines.

    • Support the integration of third-party data sources into internal systems.

    • Leverage internal HIG-approved LLMs to enhance operational workflow and productivity across many job functions

  • Codebase Stewardship

    • Write clean, well-documented, and testable code.

    • Participate in code reviews and version control practices (e.g., Git).

  • Technical Collaboration

    • Work alongside senior engineers, actuaries, underwriters, and business analysts to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

    • Provide technical support for internal users of reporting and automation tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM field, and/or specialized training or equivalent work experience.

  • Proficiency in Python and/or R

  • Exposure to SQL, Git, Linux, and basic software development practices.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to convey technical details and concepts to a non-technical audience

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Snowflake, AWS, etc.).

  • Interest in financial services or insurance/reinsurance domains.

  • Familiarity with basis accounting concepts

  • Experience with front-end web app frameworks, such as RShiny and Streamlit

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$82,000 - $123,000
