Department Overview
This position is an opportunity for a seasoned corporate communications professional with a passion for strategic storytelling, writing and tier-1 media relations to help drive the company’s profile and reputation globally. This role sits in the Corporate Communications department and reports to the Head of Corporate Communications.
Candidates should have a strong interest in corporate profiling, media relations, storytelling and a proficiency in listed company financial communications. You should be a creative thinker that has a track record of turning your original ideas into high-impact external media successes. Strong writing and communication skills are a must.
Job Description

You’ll drive corporate communications initiatives such as executive thought leadership, media pitching, staffing interviews or brainstorming the next great campaign strategy by leveraging key company milestones. You will partner with Investor Relations to support quarterly earnings activation and investor newsletter content development to elevate key storylines.

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic thought leadership plans for company executives, serving as an advisor and identifying trends/topics where leaders can contribute their perspective across owned and earned media, and speaking engagements.

  • Work collaboratively with the wider global media and communications team and internal stakeholders to proactively identify, develop and pursue story ideas that showcase the company’s leadership in technology and innovation, and promote executive stakeholders as experts.

  • Draft media relations materials including pitches, briefing materials, corporate press releases, and contributed content demonstrating writing excellence throughout. 

  • Support key initiatives such as company earnings and investment-related news, gathering feedback across executive-level stakeholders and translating it into a well thought out communications plan. 

  • Cultivate relationships with key national and financial media writers and broadcast producers.

  • Generate top-tier media coverage, coordinating interviews from start to finish with executive spokespeople.

  • Track external media coverage and report on the success metrics. Support media monitoring and measurement, using the insights to guide future planning.

Specific Knowledge and Skills

  • Strategic thinker who can build a network, gather information and translate it into a clear communications plan that aligns with the company’s objectives. 

  • Media savvy and passion for media relations; hunger for securing top-tier coverage and the ability to successfully execute. 

  • Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills. 

  • Understanding of public company financial reporting and associated media storyline opportunities.

  • Exhibits polished executive presence and strong judgment.

  • Ability to navigate a complex, matrixed organization.

  • Detailed-oriented project manager who can work well under pressure to meet deadlines. 

  • Operations-minded. Has a track record of identifying and implementing processes that drive efficiencies and build alignment.

  • Believes in a people-first culture and inspires excellence, thinking differently and creativity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; journalism, communications or English majors preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience with a corporate communications department, PR agency or seasoned business journalist.

  • Strong writing ability and prior corporate experience is required. 

  • This role is based in our Chicago office

Target Base Salary Range: $120,000-$130,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. 


Basic Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience with a corporate communications department, PR agency or seasoned business journalist.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position. (GC/CITIZEN ONLY)
