We seek an ambitious Data Engineer for the role of Lead Data Engineer as part of the brand-new SBA Analytics team. The ideal candidate will possess prior experience working in the Analytics field supporting the creation of Machine Learning and Big Data solutions for business stakeholders. This role will be the first Data Engineering hire for this team. Accordingly, we seek someone with broad experience and skill sets, including building data pipelines, researching and identifying new tools, technologies, and methodologies, understanding business and technical requirements, and creating analytical solutions. In addition, we desire a candidate with strong business acumen, interpersonal skills, and the ability to drive projects forward independently.

Job Description

This role will help build out our brand-new data analytics team within the organization to unlock new opportunities and value for the business, its healthcare company customers, and consumers. The initial focus is understanding key business metrics, processes, and core data sets to build data-driven models and solutions. Given this is a new team, there is an emphasis on building data pipelines, aggregating needed data sets, and evaluating appropriate tools and technologies. This role will play a critical part in sourcing, aggregating, and organizing the required data to build the desired analytics. This role will also build and manage the data pipelines and technologies to support our analytical solutions. In addition, Pareto is increasing the use of its cloud-based big data platform. This role will act as a champion for the broader team in evaluating new tools and methods for taking advantage of new, emerging big data technologies, including Hadoop and Spark.

This role will report directly to the Vice President of Analytics. To start this is a hands-on individual contributor role with significant potential opportunity for growth and career progression, as the team grows. Candidates must be willing and able to travel, when necessary to various company and client sites. Estimated travel is approximately less than 20% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, procure, and understand various data sources from a business and technical perspective
  • Identify key insights and metrics
  • Act as the data and technology subject matter expert within the team, as well as to other teams, business stakeholders, and customers
  • Build scalable and repeatable data and machine learning pipelines
  • Perform validation and QA on data sources
  • Perform research and analysis on analytical techniques and methodologies
  • Learning new tools and technologies, including cloud-based big data technologies and new analytical packages

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of total professional work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a relevant role
  • Degree in a computer science, engineering, mathematics, analytics or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, scalable, and robust code
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL and Python, including analytical libraries (e.g., pandas, numpy, matplotlib, sci-kit learn)
  • Prior working experience with Hadoop and Spark/PySpark
  • Prior experience working in a cloud-based environment (e.g., AWS, Azure or GCP)
  • AWS is preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage small and medium sized projects

Preferred Skills, Experience & Knowledge

  • Prior experience in a healthcare and/or a consumer-oriented industry (e.g., CPG, Digital Consumer Products, etc.)
  • Prior experience with Machine Learning Operations (MLOPs)
  • Prior experience with container technologies (e.g., Docker and Kubernetes)
  • Prior experience with Airflow
