Job Description
The ideal candidate will be an expert in applying behavioral economic theory and principles to real world marketing efforts such as brand communications and messaging, product design, and user experience. The candidate will act as an internal consultant who partners cross-functionally to inform behavioral experiments through market research and guide in-market application to improve business outcomes for key stakeholders.
The candidate will: 1) apply behavioral science and the psychology of consumer decision-marking to simplify decisions, improve marketing effectiveness, increase engagement and satisfaction, and nudge behaviors that lead to positive outcomes for the consumer and Discover 2) Advocate for and oversee the design and execution of behavioral studies, showcasing key wins and learning to senior management 3) Develop, grow, and manage a trusted network of external behavioral experts and leverage them to solve behavioral challenges 4) Help to reconcile gaps between what consumers say and do.
Responsibilities
- Leads behavioral insights initiatives and serves as a strategic thought partner for key value streams across the organization to help drive desired consumer behaviors. Understands business partner’s goals and formulates relevant research objectives and hypotheses.
- Partners with marketing and customer service teams to better integrate behavioral insights into the website and applications, brand communications, and representative phone interactions.
- Conducts psychological analysis to identify key behavioral triggers, biases, and heuristics. Develops persuasive messaging and business strategies to influence perception and drive behavioral change.
- Recommends the appropriate approach to test behavioral nudges. Influences business partners to implement recommendations and improve business results. Catalogues portfolio of successes and showcases their value to the company.
- Develops the behavioral capability toolkit, vendor roster and manages a trusted external behavioral insight network. Mentors team members and develops their knowledge and application of behavioral techniques.
- Frames business needs and ensures quality of deliverables. Conducts qualitative customer research, quantitative survey research, competitive analysis, and synthesizes past research as needed.
- Manages advanced analytics conducted by both internal and external teams with an emphasis on market research. Leverages advanced analytical techniques, including data mining and machine learning, to understand consumer attitudes and behaviors. Establishes links between survey-based measures and business outcomes, if applicable.
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
- Master's Degree in Behavioral Economics, Human Factors, Consumer Psychology, Marketing, Business Strategy, or related field
- 8+ years of experience in Consumer Insights, Marketing Strategy, or related field
- 4+ years of experience in Advanced Analytics or Data Mining
- In lieu of a degree, 10+ years Of Experience In Consumer Insights, Marketing Strategy, or related field
Preferred Qualifications

- PhD in Behavioral Economics or Consumer Psychology
