Plan and manage dedicated truck capacity and costs, assign and re-optimize loads within Hours of Service and DOT constraints, negotiate drayage rates, monitor performance versus metrics, collaborate with Account Management and Operations, and support off-hours operational needs and reporting.
Essential Job Functions
- Analyze and manage costs associated with capacity planning, including rail costs, equipment, and truck plans to maximize margins. Seek opportunities to reduce costs while achieving service and efficiency goals.
- Responsible for analyzing Driver Optimization solutions and assigning loads to Company truck capacity in compliance with federal safety regulations, such as “Hours of Service” Federal Regulations, geographic considerations, and equipment constraints to maximize driver utilization.
- Negotiate competitive spot rates for drayage services, ensuring optimal cost efficiency while achieving service goals.
- Contribute to the development of the market plan and while being responsible for the daily execution of all inbound and outbound shipments within an assigned geographic territory or account specific customer.
- Re-optimize loads when necessary to address delays, equipment failures, or driver issues, ensuring we achieve customer on-time service requirements.
- Monitor operational performance against capacity plans. Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. Recommend and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Accountable for meeting established metrics, including loaded miles, driver utilization, service, safety and cost per load.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Account Management and Operations, to confirm capacity coverage in advance of anticipated customer forecasts. Communicate capacity plans and changes to relevant stakeholders.
- Provide additional off hours support for site specific operations including but not limited to fuel requests, hotel requests and accident reporting.
- Projects and/or Reporting Requirements assigned by Central Dedicated Manager.
- Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to lead by example and foster collaboration within the workplace and also with the highest integrity, professionalism and respect.
- Must continually change, adapt and be flexible in all areas of responsibility.
- Must be highly motivated, goal oriented and able to complete tasks on time.
- Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous responsibilities related to load planning for commercial truck fleets. Minimum of 3 years of experience in the transportation industry including routing and dispatching.
- High School Diploma; Bachelor’s degree (in Business, Engineering, Logistics or related field) preferred.
- Above average knowledge of Operations, Hours of Service regulations, and DOT / State Regulations within the transportation industry.
- CDL is a plus but not required.
- Proficient in Windows based programs, MS Word and Excel.
Salary: $45,000 - $55,000/year base salary
This is an estimated range based on the circumstances at the time of posting, however it may change based on a combination of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, education, market factors, geographical location, budget, and demand.
