Job Title:Director of Communications & PR

Role Overview:

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Communications to lead and scale our worldwide PR function. This role will define and drive our global narrative - translating product innovation into compelling consumer stories that resonate across markets, media, and culture.
You will own the development and execution of high-impact communications strategies, leading earned media and product storytelling through both traditional and non-traditional tactics. You’ll also help continue to shift communications from feature‑led announcements to experience‑led storytelling, helping consumers understand how technology shows up in real life, in moments that matter. This role requires a leader who can operate at both a strategic and tactical level - building campaigns, guiding teams, and rolling up their sleeves to deliver results in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
This role will report to the VP of Communications and oversee a globally dispersed team. The role is hybrid but candidates must be based in either New York or San Francisco.
Role Overview:

At McAfee, your work helps keep people safe every day all over the world. You’ll join a team that’s reimagining how a legacy brand shows up with clarity, humanity, and creative courage.

We're looking for a seasoned communications pro who geeks out all things tech, has their finger on the pulse of the cultural zeitgeist, knows how to directly connect earned media with driving meaningful business results, and you come to the table with an impressive roster of media contacts across consumer, tech, culture and lifestyle beats

About the Role:

  • Drive the global narrative across markets, positioning the company as a leader in consumer technology and culture

  • Lead all aspects of public relations, including media relations, product launches, integrated campaigns, executive visibility, and thought leadership

  • Translate product innovation into compelling, consumer-facing storytelling across earned, social, and influencer channels

  • Oversee major product and company moments, ensuring strong, coordinated global execution

  • Manage and develop a high-performing, globally distributed communications team

  • Lead and optimize relationships with PR agencies across regions to ensure narrative consistency, quality, and measurable impact

  • Partner closely with product, marketing, research, legal, and executive leadership to deliver cohesive and effective communications strategies

  • Establish KPIs and modern measurement frameworks to evaluate performance and continuously optimize campaign performance

  • Ensure McAfee has narrative consistency across earned media, creators, owned content, partner platforms, executive and internal narratives

  • Monitor the global media landscape and cultural trends to identify opportunities for proactive storytelling

About you:

  • A strategic leader who is equally comfortable setting vision and executing day-to-day work

  • A sharp storyteller who can connect product innovation to meaningful consumer impact

  • A collaborative partner who thrives in cross-functional environments

  • A builder who can scale teams, systems, and agency models globally

  • A results-driven operator with a global mindset and strong cultural awareness

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in consumer PR

  • Experience in consumer tech strongly preferred (or similarly fast-paced, high-growth industries)

  • Proven track record of leading global PR strategies and managing teams across multiple regions

  • Proven roster of media, influencer, and industry relationships with a history of securing high-impact coverage

  • Experience leading product communications and high-visibility launches

  • Exceptional storytelling, writing, and verbal communication skills

  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and counsel senior stakeholders
